Lol everyone seems to do taekwondo! I quit when I entered high school though. I got my jr. black belt when I was 8-ish I think, because I was good for my age (I guess). Then I quit and came back when I was 12 and my new instructor started me out at black belt because he didn't believe in jr. black belts. And then he advanced me even further because I was good at poomsae. xD I kinda miss taekwondo though :T_T:

Geez, I hated poomsae. I prefer board breaking. I love cracking wood <3... I had to break a brick with my hand for black belt test ._. I baked it in an oven beforehand so it was all crumbly. Piece of cake (: .

lol :XD: Poomsae was the only thing I was good at and I liked it a lot. We didn't do breaking much but we did sparring often. I had to spar my sabeom's son for one of my advancement tests... and his son just so happens to be participating in the 2012 Olympics. :XD: I'm surprised that I did good enough to advance lol

I did sparring for three months before my black belt test because I had to. I was 12, and I had to choose between a class filled with hulking giants (age 13+ but it was really adults) and a class full of kids up to my waist. I had to beat up little midgets. Ohh boy.

Not me personally, since I don't know Capoeira, even though I always wanted to learn it after seeing Eddy Gordo using it in Tekken 3. But you could Windmill and beat many people, since you're also swaying here and there, confusing a person who hasn't caught on to what your inner beat is.

Only if you do it wrong. And by wrong, I mean so wrong where you break your neck.

The breakdancing WM that people recognize is called flaring, which is still fairly easy to do if you know how. It's more spinning on your shoulders than your neck, as seen here:

Taekwondo is mostly balance and technique. The truth to fighting is that your black belt means nothing without actual fighting experience.

If you want to fight well (uhh, why?), hapkido is one of the most practical martial arts for self defense.
Never took it because most attacks it teaches is lethal.

Its self defense where if someone attacks you, you'll be charged with manslaughter 2 minutes later.

Taekwondo isn't bad though, I've learned to minimize damage, and that the best attacks are jabs aimed quickly at the chin/cheeks with your knuckles. Its also the only standard martial arts acknowledged for the olympics.

Don't do any flashy kicks. Those exist for technique/balance toning and to look bad ass in general.

It all comes down to putting your whole body in a side/roundhouse kick (only when proper distance is met).

BobYoMeowMeow

Mixed Martial arts is really popular as opposed to single styles thanks to UFC
people are all like
WHY DO I HAVE TO WASTE TIME MASTERING THIS ONE STYLE AND INSTEAD COMBINE ALL THESE RANDOM STYLES TOGETHERS HURR

The cat has no idea if there's any benefits to that sort of thing.
Kitae, the cat would like to know if ur taekwondo studio has "restrictions" such as no attacks that can cause even a bruise etc.
Master says Taekwondo studios have a large range of rules
One teaching minimal damage and contact and another encouraging power where chest pads are needed.

Each session had me hurting at the end.

And attacks we learn are meant for making your opponent incapable of fighting.

For sparring, yes pads are a must.A single proper kick can rupture organs for bust ribs, you know.

My reverse side kick measured at 800 lb/inch^2 pressure. A cat would die instantly, unless he's a thundercat.

Not sure what you refer to in a back kick, but I've done them all.

The most challenging is usually a high jump spin hook kick, or the 540-720 spin kick (this thing is bs and not in any way at all useful in a fight).

The 540-720 kick exists to get you laid, end of uses.

This took me like 3 months to do without landing on my ass. Waste of time? Yes.

Its nothing different from, say, playing an instrument.

Base work by beginner balance/footwork and overall fitness training.
Practice 30 minutes a day.
Learn 180 kick. Master it.
Learn 360 kick. Master it.
Try consecutive 360-180 kick.
Learn 540 kick. Haul ass. Hate gravity. Get dizzy. Master it.
Learn 720 kick. Call bs on life. Sprain a foot. Curse physics. Master it.

Set this plan in... say... 2 years if you have real talent. 5 years if you're human.

No one can play Flight of the Bumblebees on a violin on their first year of instrument practice. Remember to pace yourself.

I've only gotten consecutive 360-180. Being fairly average in PE and such, I don't think I could get 540. Doesn't help that I stopped going to lessons six months ago.

And cat, yes. the spin back kick is one of the simpler yet more brutal techniques in martial arts.

If kitae can do it, you can do it owo.

3 months of bruising my butt and blaming god for physics unlocked 540 for me. This was AFTER perfecting the 360-180 consecutive.
Gave up with 720. Its bull****.

There no point. A solid fist to the cheek bones has more or less the same effect. Cept you don't risk being off balance at landing.

Sherlock Holmes shows the effect of clapping against the ear.
In the opening the breaks the opponent's knees to prevent movement. Attacking the legs isn't a bad idea. Shin kicks hurt like f---, and low licks can break leg bones.

The overall key is to keep your distance. If it gets too close, you can't kick, and lose all taekwondo advantage. There are a few techniques like elbow strikes to free space, but if you get that close, its already a match of force. Just bear hug or knee and hope for the best.

One of the instructors who taught my class from before always had these neat tricks where you twist and bend the other person's limbs/grab their jaw/etc etc, and unless your opponent has some serious brute force and little regard for pain, it works really well in getting them down so you can run, or so you can hold them still until the cops arrive.

Yeah, those are common.

Whats uncommon are certain pressure points that can impact your body. Never been taught, but I was always the sandbag dummy for demonstrations.
