Should I waste my time doing the optional quest "Friends" for evie? I don't really have any use for the sword and I'm trying to rush the main quest to catch up and surpass my fionna. However if the sword somehow becomes a shiny new staff instead then maybe...

It does become the New Friendship Staff (http://www.vindictuswiki.com/wiki/New_Friendship_Staff). If you move on to Aodhan's Staff, which you get for free, you won't have to craft your own.

Its worth crafting the Howling Staff though, because it can easily last you until the mid 20's.

Isn't Aodhan's Staff better than Howling Staff?

I guess its up to preference then. I +5'd my Howling before I got Aodhan's so I'm keeping it :D

If you're the kind of person who likes to do all the quest.. theres one quest that needs you to craft a weapon out of gnoll chieftain hammer..
which would be the Howling Staff. So might as well use that to begin with if that's the case. until u get a better one that is.
