Gold Spammers

Hey guys,
I just wanted to give you a heads up:
The GMs are manually kicking the spammers as soon as they are spotted. We are also planning to adopt an automated solution that will be added in the near future, so please be patient.

pfft, gold spammers are the least annoying, right click > block. They should go boot the freaking bots in production areas like the metalurgy river spot and emain spiders.

That is sure a lot of tedious work. There isn't really a way for them to keep manually kicking all of them in all the channels. Automatic way is needed.

I'm not quite sure how an automatic way would be implemented. Maybe block anyone who says the word 'gold' so many times over a certain interval?

They should make some sort of filter that doesnt let you type in asduitghaeuigh as a name.

That could take a lot of work though. Think of every random combination of letters (with cases) that a player could possibly use, then think of how hard it would be to make a filter for those. The filter would also have to exclude any real combination of letters, which as we know Nexon is not good at (see: the chat filter). I'm thinking someone who spams 'gold' (any combination of case of course) 50 times or so over the course of a minute should be banned from the game. No real player is going to do that with any good reason, and the script makers would have a heck of a time getting their message across without using 'gold'.

They could also look for the use of certain web addresses that gold spammers are using. They could either prevent chat from being posted to the screen if it contains that web address, or if someone says the address several times have the system block them.

Honestly I had no idea a block/ignore list feature even existed in this game until someone told me how after a guy was harassing me and a few others.

They modified the source engine this much to make this game what it is, I would hope they'd look at incorporating some of the already very well devised heuristic spam algorithms to filter these chat channels.

Not all the channels are used by the channel revolver, and some of them are used more than others. The GMs need only focus on some of the channels.

Sometimes the bots have non-standard letters though that just look like they're normal. I tried to just /block one bot today and typed it 3 times, I was damn sure I'd typed it right by the 3rd time. So, I just did the right click whisper->block thing.
