The creators of South Park have been threatened with murder by Islamic extremist groups in America over last week's episode which contained a controversial portrayal of the Muslim prophet Muhammad.

On April 14th the animated series created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone produced an episode that showed the Muslim prophet Muhammad dressed in a bear suit, and since its airing has caused a wave of controversy throughout the Muslim world.

A sobering and chilling reply was sent out this week when remarks made by a New York Islamic extremist group called Revolution Muslim said "We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality that will likely happen to them."

Theo van Gogh was a Dutch filmmaker who was assassinated in 2004 by an Islamic extremist for his personal take on the Muslim religion in both films and books. (A photo of him with a knife sticking out of his chest was posted).

The website for Revolution Muslim went further than just a veiled threat, and posted information on their site for the general population about where the creators of South Park work and live. This was accompanied by a sermon from a wanted cleric in Yemen outlining the punishments for blasphemy against the Muslim religion.

The story was also covered tonight on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, and Cooper himself said, "We live in a country which prides itself on its freedom of speech, in which we can say whatever is in our hearts, in our minds as long as it's not threatening to someone else; as long as it's not calling for violence against somebody else.

"Now, you might not like South Park the cartoon, you might think it's offensive, you might decide it's not something you want to watch, that's up to you. But the notion that some radical Islamic group in America would make a threat, even a veiled one, against two men's lives because of it is chilling, and for the people making this threat, that is precisely the point; to chill discussion, to chill debate."

Although the owners of the website Revolution Muslim claim that they are only calling on people to protest, the website clearly depicted a murder victim underneath a clip of the offending scene from South Park.

It is steadfastly believed by Revolution Muslim that the Muslim equivalant to the Bible, the Qur'an, commands them "to terrorize non believers."

A public response by the creators of South Park has yet to be released.

Yea, Islamic extremist do make Islam look bad, but there are quite a few of them as well. The non-extremist Islamic people don't exactly actively decry and stop these people either to the point people can hear. They think it isn't their business, and go on with their everyday lives.

Although, compared to any other religion law used for countries, (Strict interpretation of) Islamic Law is the most common law in the world.

Just one of many reasons why organized religion as a whole completely sickens me.

That episode was freaking awesome by the way, was 2 parts.

South Park makes fun of EVERYTHING. You're not particularly special if you get made fun of in an episode of it. There's no reason to be mad >_>"

They should have known it was coming. I mean, they had the whole anti-Family Guy two part episode where they pretty much did the same thing, except for it was Family Guy's cast that made fun of Muhammad, unlike this latest incident where South Park did it themselves.

For those that are not extremist, cause most are not, needs to get there head out of their ass. Those in power gonna judge the Islam as an iconic evil, and word it to a cult instead of a religion.

Of course they can. Ever heard about freedom of speech?

but anyways, I can't believe they made death threats cuz of a cartoon...

Also I was thinking, (I dont watch south park) did south park ever make a reference to holocaust? would that just be "ok" cuz of freedom of speech?

Yes, possibly multiple times. One of them was even my favorite episode.
The whole point of this kind of humor is that people are so touchy about everything these days that you feel like doing it on purpose.

Was implying that crusaders killed many, many people in the name of god. The church was very evil IMO. Ironic since my family is catholic and all. Anyways don't want to go in deep into this. Just tired of the kids in my school who keeps calling Islamic people terrorist.

Yes, all the fight for your religion is mostly crap made up by religious leaders for them to gain political influence and power
NOTHING in their original rules/text/whatever said this.
it's typically for their personal gain as well.

In every religion, society or anything in the world, there will always be people who are not satisfied with something.

You have no right to tell people if they can post in your threads or not. This is a public forum. If someone wants to post in a topic that you put into the public, then they have the right to do so. Just because you don't like how they done something in a completely different thread doesn't give you the right to ban them from your threads.

It's a recommendation, Arsik, not a demand.

The cat doesnt want the staff of these forums to go to extreme measures like making posts in introduction not count towards post count just because of spammy individuals.
This may be a public forums but it's not legitimate for people like him to disrespect the OP of threads.

when the cat asks a favor,
iunno i forgot isnt a proper response

yeah, and like someone said, south park makes fun of everything, and the fact death threats were made to get their way just annoys me. The censorship itself isn't a big deal, but they're using fear to get their way, and to me, that's where it starts. Somehow I think they'll just find something else they dislike, dish out death threats, and people will bend over for them >0>
