Hetero Kite vs Heater

To me both shields are equal in stats. With heater, i can buy an orange/black one and its cheap (20-45k). But its repair cost (90k) at 98% looks poopy. On the other hand, the Hetero doesnt come in my color and its more expensive to buy(300-600k). However, the only 70k repair cost at 98% appeals to me? Thoughts pls? D: Im eant a heater, but im fairly poor XD

Go for cheaper repair price. If you have a shield, it is going to be on you anyway. Why go through the hassle of paying god awful amount of money for repairs on a shield that is arguably weaker than the cheap one? Go for hetero.

I value def and prot over PD myself. Synth'd 3 def light hets (4/1 after upgrades), beholders, and the like appeal to me more so. Kites are neat too although i sacrifice the tiny addition to prot u can have all 3 pds which i find neat.

Really heaters and hets I see little difference in other than appearance. Shields are usually expensive irregardless to repair unless you go to round or light het route so really it's all just looks unlike beholders and dragon shields which boast nice upgrades and varied judgment in looks.

Well, I could see the 2 less inventory spaces being useful if you're like me.

In other words, main archery, but when you know you're going to be hit, switch to the shield to soften the blow. I generally find it useful to have on my switch, and I use it with my cylinder anyway because I love my barrier spikes.

What are you talking about they have the same upgrades except for gem upgrades and PD %. Unless your talking about gem upgrades then i understand.
If you want more PD go hetero if you want more defense go heater. Considering heteros have mostly durability gem upgrades and heaters have the +2 defense that's where your only major difference lays. That fact alone would make me choose heater since PD isn't my thing for shields, i get enough on my armor imo. It will take a lot of shield use to get to that final +2 def to make the heater worthwhile though so if you don't use defense terribly often or charge ect, hetero might be the better choice.

Here's what i would do if i were choosing between the two ideal upgrades in my eyes:

Hetero Idea:
Surface Enhancement - +2 Defense
Hetero Kite Shield Special Mod 3 - +6% Magic PD
Special Gem Upgrade - +3% Melee PD
Hetero Kite Shield Gem Upgrade - +1 Durability

End Stats (Base Beginning Stats): 4 Defense/0Protection 6% magic PD, 3%Melee PD, 16 Dura

Versus


Heater Idea:
Surface Enhancement - +2 Defense
Special Modification 3 - +5% Magic PD
Special Gem Upgrade - +3%Melee PD
Heater Shield Gem Upgrade 1 - +2 Defense

End Stats (Base Beginning Stats): 6 Defense/0 Protection 5% Magic PD, 3% Melee PD, 15 Dura



The winner in my books is heater. After having used hetero kite shields for 2 years i stopped using them (outside of my beloved red/black one) and started using beholders since the hetero paths were only good for PD and durability as well as style. Otherwise they are kind of pointless shields. Light heteros have protection upgrades to make it so they can be 3/1 or 4/1 if you synthesize a light het making them superior to heteros imo for defensive stats. Keeping in mind again I don't care about PD on shields (i like to use magic when choosing my main PD since I don't get magic PD from my armor).
