Pi pikachu pi, pi pikachu. Pi pi pikachu. Pika pikachu, pika.
(If it get's seriously out of hand it's a problem, otherwise Pika sees no problem since most people troll spam anyway (EX : "Loooooool" or "-Insert very short post here that barely answers topic") . You don't see people getting warnings for quoting other users and saying, "LOL THIS". But think about it - would you rather have people being assholes and giving you a picture with a caption or people being bigger assholes using a video all the time with stuff like :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BW2vrPpmJOA
Umm, yeah. It gets very overrated.)

That's why there are moderators and rules.
Unfortunately I haven't seen any rules being enforced outside of the market forum.
There are topics with spams like "lol", "qft" or "what he said... bleh bleh bleh", "qq inb4'd", some even get derailed and turned into an entirely different topic.

off topic single image replies is counted as spam anyways so when it bothers you report it for a mod to come in and kick asses (unless it's in the spam forums).
So technically it's already banned, just not under the terms "image replies".
Tibarn
04-30-2010, 06:47 PM
This is ridiculous.
You can't ban people using images in their replies. Completely unreasonable.
If you don't like it, you don't have to look at the image, or even click on the thread any more. Maybe if you were a mod, you would change things, but until then, you're going to have to get used to it.

You can't just go around and troll people with "lol@u" images, there are even rules against them.
Banning for posting the images is a bit too harsh, but telling people that they have to "get used to" them is ridiculous.

No, there's a happy medium here. When a post is reported or we see trolling, it's obvious. Sometimes, it's acceptable to use an image as a reply, especially if it shows the reaction of the poster at hand, provides info, etc. What would be messed up is a string of images not related to the topic at hand, not helping the poster express how they feel about the topic at hand, etc. Anything that derails a thread entirely, images or not, is unacceptable. But if it's just a macro that could be applied to the conversation? No big deal.

Yeah, this is what I thought. When the picture is relevant, it's fine. I don't see what's wrong here.
It's not often people post completely off topic images anyways, what would be the point?

I'd agree that image macros are being used rather carelessly... But there are threads where image replying is relevant. I'm not going to dig them out, but I RPed someone who doesn't speak, so images were an effective way of communication.
@Tibarn: Your terse manner of speaking and calling other people's ideas "ridiculous" will naturally come off as an angered response-- others will assume the reason why you act callously is because you're not aware of it and in an emotional state. Well, it's your choice on how you behave, but I don't think it's a very compelling stance...

One image responses can be annoying but it really depends on what is it. 'Facepalm' images simply represent the poster's responses to the topic at hand, but its essential to keep them small, no we dont want your friggin startrek face palm taking up 50% of the page. Which brings me to the next point about "if you dont like it, dont look at it", that makes it sound like people stare at the image for 30mins while raging. no, just no. Its not my fault if im browsing a thread and it unavoidably comes on my screen
Personally the "no u" and "tl:dr" crap is way more annoying, if you dont have the brain power to spend time reading a little bit, why even bother posting, your posts arent valued

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the "if you can't deal with it, just deal with it" attitude that some members have.
In addition, the "what is this, I don't even..." is getting kind of old and doesn't add anything to the conversation.

i didnt read the posts on page 4 and 5 i was too lazy.
i dont see anything wrong with one picture posts that convey an emotion in reaction to something said previously. it's still like an ongoing conversation, i think zephyri said that too... i think. i dont remember. most of them aren't really meant for trolling imo~
like the example you provided, i think he was just trying to be funny and didn't mean to start beef, because those pictures were meant to be funny.
however i guess the ideal thing would be for them to elaborate and contribute a little to the topic after posting the picture emote. if there were a string of those 1picture posts in one thread, then that would be getting out of hand i admit. i think 1 or 2 wouldn't hurt a thread~ i think itll rather make it more fun and interesting x3
ps. i confess i do write "lol @ (whomever)" posts.... sometimes some things are so funny you just have to express yourself x3 sorry if that's wrong.

I haven't seen any image replies outside of General Discussion and Spam Zone, and I haven't seen anyone trolling another person with images; how different would it be if Chocklitshop said "hell no" without the image? Personally, I feel that related images make General Discussion more animated and funny, which we're usually looking for in the Entertainment and Everything Else sections. If we have image replying in Questions and Help and Mabinogi Talk, then we might have a problem.

But the pointless images that have nothing to do with the topic at hand ARE against the rules, since that's spamming. The Cat wants all image only replies to be banned.
Also, I think Xiya is turning into Capt. Obvious with her getting aggravated at the Cat constantly roleplaying for two years plus without breaking out of character.

We could have a poll. Evidently some people don't like it, but some people do.
Although imo, banning images would = banning emoticons, faces such as o.o, o-o, Q(>o<Q), or any of that stuff, because technically they belong in the same category. As for the taking up the whole page, the forum resizes it, does it not? Unless you're talking about image mobs, which only really happens when people are posting images of different things for that specific purpose. If that made any sense. To just contribute to a conversation, it'd be usually one or maybe two images, and they wouldn't take up "the whole page".

Forum posts with emoticons usually have other content. I would have to admit, some image replies (with captions) are entertaining. If it's not excessive image replies or pages filled with image-only replies, I don't think it's a problem.

Usually when replying with a picture there is going to be relevance, whether it be an expression, a facepalm, or captions.
If it's off-topic, and the posts only consists of an image, it's spam. That's already against the rules.

Thing is, your saying these images are stupid is like saying your way of acting like a cat is stupid.
Uhm, no. That's a bad analogy and you should feel bad.

By the way cat, why not just skim over the image?
What's so wrong with that?

because that's TL;DR
which is different.
The cat actually read posts so that the cat won't give stupid /b/tarded replies like Poopshop or whatever his name was.

I personally find image replying to be entertaining most of the time. I remember that on guru and here i cracked up heaps seeing image replies, to the point where my sister threw a hissy fit and told me to shut up. (OHH! Maybe that's why we should ban image replies!)
Anyway, i generally don't mind so long as the image is not indecent or offensive. And like others said, image replying is basically like emotes and: o-o, :3, =w=, T.T, ;~;, >:O and so on. They express in greater detail.
