I use Malawarebytes. It works wonders and has helped me through a ton of sh-t with viruses.

Malwarebytes is a good one, I use AVG Anti-Virus mainly though.

Kaspersky is supposed to be brilliant, but, well, costs. If you configure your browser sensibly and know how to browse you eliminate most potential threads though, and paying for an antivirus program stops making sense.

I haven't had much experience with antivirus and similar programs, so far I've only used Antivir and Ad-Aware, so I can't really help you much.

However, reviews reveal that Antivir doesn't impede performance nearly as much as some other antivirus programs during gaming, which could be important if you play some demanding games. Or maybe it was just loading times. I must admit I don't remember.

If you can find a cracked nod32 get that. It's written in assembly and is very efficient on resources and has great databases and heuristics.
Otherwise AVG is pretty standard for a free thing and does the job.

ESET NOD32. Or ESET Smart Security. Both are really, really good. They don't use up many resources on your computer and they are very good at preventing viruses/trojans/worms. I haven't gotten any of them thus far, and I download stuff a lot.

Really? Antivir downloaded itself onto my computer upstairs, and refused to let me do anything until I payed.

+1

Ive had a very bad experience with avira antivirus, I really suggest you don't get it. microsoft security essentials has given me no problem so far, and my comp tech aficionado brother recommended it to me. and yes, it's completely free.

I use malware bytes and Kaspersky. You're able to get a pretty good deal with Kaspersky. If you get it you're able to use it on 2 or 3 others computers.

Avast used to have a huge problem, not sure if it's been fixed.
If vital system files were infected it would just get deleted or corrupted whe it tried to fix it, rendering your system useless unless you had the means to recover those files.

Kept having to fix client's windows machines because of missing files, each time I'd check the avast logs and right there in the logs it would say it deleted the files in question.

I use Malwarebytes and Windows Security Essentials. But you can also get Linux, since theres like no viruses for that.
