RUMOR: Is this Rockman Online? : The Mega Man Network (http://www.themmnetwork.com/2010/05/11/rumor-is-this-mega-man-online/)

GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6261939.html):
...Capcom did tease an extension of a current brand. In describing its efforts to better capitalize on the PC game market, Capcom said that is engaged in a joint development deal with Korea-based Neowiz Games on Mega Man Online. No details on this project were offered, and it was equally unclear whether Mega Man Online bears any relation to Mega Man Universe, a name which Capcom registered with the US Patent & Trademark Office in April.
Strategy Informer (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6261939.html):
In a move to expand their PC market presence, Capcom have said a joint development deal has been struck with Korean-based Neowiz Games.
They'll be exploring an online Mega Man game, which could be linked to April's Mega Man Universe trademark? Capcom sign off painful fiscal.
If the fiscal period now gone for Capcom is any indication then both fans and developers should be super worried, with net income down 73.1 percent for the 12 month period to just $23.8 million - that's bad. Revenue sunk 27.3 percent to $734 million.
Anyway the publisher has a plan to turn all that around for this fiscal year, which kicked off April 1st in case you were wondering. They'll be shortening the cycles of their franchises by outsourcing projects a lot more and beefing up internal teams.
They will also be keeping a closer eye on their outsourced projects hoping to combine "overseas input" and "Capcom input" better in the future. 20-30 percent of the publisher's development budget is also being tasked on new original IP ventures.
It's the news of extending the Mega Man brand that has intriguing promise as Capcom reveal a partnership with Neowiz Games to deal with Mega Man Online. They haven't released any further information on this MMO, which could be 'Mega Man Universe'.

So... uh, how would it work? Only question I'm wondering, since Megaman doesn't have a battle system(or game mechanics) meant for multiple people...

Personally, I'm thinking City of Heroes. Customize your own Reploid, align with the Hunters or the Mavericks, and fight for control of key areas. That's what I'm really wanting, anyway, in full 3D.

Knowing that PMang is helping create the game, I'm guessing that this game is going to be an FPS/TPS game since they've already made S4 League which is essentially a shooter. I wouldn't at all be surprised if both games played out in the same/similar fashion. Then again, MegaMan X died have a few RPG elements in their games, so I guess they might make an FPS with RPG elements in it as well. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm definitely gonna check this game out when PMang releases it in OpenBeta.

Neowiz would pick up a shooter game, especially one that's not modern day warfare kind. So I'm hoping to see how this turns out.

Legends = MMO material for sure, but this is not Legends. The character on the poster is clearly X. With that said, I don't think they could've picked a better or more popular Mega Man series to base the MMO on. Legends would've been awesome, but let's face it, it doesn't have enough fans to justify an MMORPG.

I also have a YouTube subscription to the maker of that YouTube video. Undergroundruin makes some sweet Legends videos. He also modded the Legends cast into Unreal Tournament 2004 (I have his modded version XD).

ROFL. No worries, it's Mega Man X. There's so much that can be done with the X timeline that they don't really have to fudge anything.
I'm hoping that the game will take place between the X and Zero series. There's a huge plot gap between the X and Zero games and it's only been vaguely explored.

The Elf Wars, you mean. Yeah, there's been a lot of speculation about that time period. Capcom gave an "official" fill-in-the-gap explanation for that time period. Note that all dates are taken relative to the Zero series.
(The "virus" incident mentioned in the first data entry is the plot of Mega Man 10.)
-----------------------
Reploids… those are robots made a time long ago who were near human and had limitless potential… Given individuality by means of advanced technology, the Reploids worked for humans and were meant to be the greatest ally to walk alongside mankind… However, trouble silently built up among the gears between humans and Reploids that beneath these peaceful times… Having limitless potential and being near human, it was only a matter of time before the Reploids would oppose humans. These kinds of dangerous Reploids the humans fearfully called Mavericks… Reploids that became Mavericks were disposed of by there own Reploid brethren… This was the response humans devised… For the Reploids trying to protect their human masters, there was no room for choice. Thus a violent war between the Reploids that seemed to have no end erupted… Numerous battles accumulated… time went on… and even with the creation of the human utopia protected by Reploids, Neo Arcadia, the struggles haven’t ended…

To confirm the safety of X’s cognition program, Dr. Light sealed away X in an analysis capsule.

Later, this virus was named the Sigma Virus, after the Reploid “Sigma” who led a revolt against the human leadership.

The confrontation of X’s “philosophy of coexistence” and the human leadership’s “philosophy of rule” begins.

Elf technology just drastically reduced the number of Mavericks. The war went on.
Unless they want to make this game a Mega Man X9 of sorts, it'll likely involve the Elf Wars. That, or it'll break the canon completely.

I'll take that as a yes =3
Lol looks like anything past X6 isn't significantly cannon.
As for the game's storyline, I think that the time between Elf Wars up to Project Elpizo seems likely. Given the political driving factors involved and their vagueness, they could easily write in something. Energy would seem to be a likely driving factor given that half the Zero games were based off of its shortage.

Fixed.
And yes, I was somewhat disappointed that they actually consider X6 canonical when X5 was originally intended to be the end of the series (and was considered as such officially until this announcement was made), but at the same time I'm disappointed that Command Mission (which occurred even after X8) wasn't considered canonical -- it's easily one of my favorite games ever.
