Naturaly a pet can have a maximum of 10 defence with r6 defence and 2 protection from the start. Most pets, with maxed skills have about 240 ~ 280hp, thats if you stop training them after you've got all their skills to rank 6. But when you ACTUALY use them in combat, they usualy die in less than 4 ~ 8 hits since their defence is so pathetic and their enemy counterparts have about 30'ish more defence and at least 10 protection.

Honestly, why do we even have combat pets that'll somehow get owned by basic sm mobs due to a lack of defence?:T_T:

I mean, Nexon should at least let us equip 4 nao items onto a pet to increase it's defence and make it so we wont waste 20 feathers on it just to keep it alive every 3 seconds.

Just give it a proper AI, and it can survive a bit longer. Besides, defense doesn't make that much more difference in harder places.

Well it's obvious, won't that break the game? First Golemnogi, then it's going to be Golpetnogi.

This.

Even a pet that has a Bolt-Counter AI can usually stall things for you. Snake is probably the most useful pet for poisonable enemies with a Bolt Counter though. xD

AI's won't save people with lag (like me ).
Why not? People will buy them.

Pets are supposed to enhance combat play, but right now it's pretty pathetic. Pets are just extra moves before death right now, they are not a valid player of their own right due to crappy defence/protection/abilities. Especially with more difficult dungeons. With exception of poison snakes for bosses and certain monsters, and stun abilities like crystal deer, flame horses and dragons the rest are useless.

I really liked the pet system when I started the game as a new player and doing only dungeons, but right now the system is terrible for shadow missions. I feeel that pets as an extension of the player is not fully utilised. If it is only for pet swiping, it's boring and the pet is just a slave.

The whole pet system should be revamped, especially the bonuses pets give. They should last for as long as the pet is out, not just for 5 minutes.

Also, the bonuses shouldn't decrease as the pet ages. I mean, what's the point of +1 Stamina, +1 Critical anyway? That's silly.

DevCat should renew all of that.

I agree. I also think that even at an old age, they should gain some stats if they level up. I mean, it's now Rushinogi.

nah they dont need defence, protection is much better. id like to be able to equip my pets with gear to enhance them. guardian of the ruins has an armored horse so why cant we? overall a good AI will keep your pet alive longer, but even then an AI is only AI so it can and will mess up and fail horribly. wish i knew how to use the pet AI thing but it just confuses the hell out of me so i have to rely on others.

Pets should have seen some sort of update by now. All content will eventually fall behind the metagame unless updated. Windmill would be underused if new melee skills, additional sources of strength, new enchants and melee weapons hadn't been released.

The highest possible defense/protection right now comes with transformed Paladin dogs. My borzoi has 13 defense/2.9% protection when transformed, though 14 defense is possible. That's obviously pathetic.

1. Remove the road companion bonus' degredation over time. What's honestly the point of having it weaken? Does DevCat honestly expect people to re-purchase pets in order to take advantage of the bonus? It's a pointless feature right now. Remove the degredation entirely. Optionally, add a NX item to the cash shop which permanently stops the degredation and resets it to the initial value. We gain the option of buffing the bonus, they profit from the item itself.

2. Implement some sort of total level multiplier. As a pets total level improves, certain stats may also improve.

0-50 (No change)
50-100 (Health +5%, Max/Min Damage +5%, Defense +20%)
100-150 (Health +10%, Max/Min Damage +10%, Defense +40%, Stamina/Mana +15%)
150-200 (Health +15%, Max/Min Damage +20%, Defense +60%, Stamina/Mana +20%, Critical +25%)
200-250 (Health +20%, Max/Min Damage +40%, Defense +80%, Stamina/Mana +25%, Critical +50%, Protection +15)
250+ (Health +25%, Max/Min Damage +80%, Defense +100%, Stamina/Mana +30%, Critical +75%, Protection +30, Natural stat recovery +300%)

As an example, my Borzoi has 254 HP, 108 MP, 90 SP, 42-81 Min/Max, 38.6% Critical, 11 Defense and 2% Protection. I'll ignore the Paladin stats, though any modified pets would receive the multiplier.

If it were over level 250, it would have 317 HP, 140 MP, 117 SP, 75-145 Min/Max, 67.5% Critical, 22 defense and 32% Protection. That would be pretty decent. Transformed, it would have a maximum damage of approximately 200.

I agree with the "pets need an update" argument. Right now, they serve as momentary distractions for monsters, a meaningless stat boosts, some inventory space, and in some cases a speed boost (even though we still can't fly in uladh...) For and the price for most pets is around $3-8 ish for just combat/production pets, and $10-16 for mounts.. and we can only use them for a limited amount of time each day. It's ridiculous. We pretty much need pets too because at a certain point in the game it's nearly impossible to get by without those distractions and inventories..and because of their limitations...we buy more. They throw out limited editions so we scramble to get them...and we do just that. It's a money sink and nexon isn't likely to fix the problems with pets (or the game in general..) because, quite simply, they don't have to.
