One big spider, you could still step on and kill.
Swarms of little bugs, you cannot. Fire ants are known to be able to rush up your limbs within seconds.

Fire ants kill people all the time.
Its more common than you think.

They've been known to swarm a rat whole and eat them. People often get a limb or two rushed, and a lot of damage is done. About 1/20 cases of fire ant attack results in death.

Flame throwers have been out of production since Vietnam.
We practically abandoned their use.

Now its very hard to find one for military use. Commercial flamethrowers are okay I suppose, but they're just not as bad ass.

Flame throwers are defined by anything that can expel fire more than 10 ft. Its illegal in almost every country, and in some states in the US.

So if you can keep it under 10ft its not technically a flame thrower.
