View Full Version : "dead" user cleanup

If I have time this weekend I'll be cleaning up "dead" user accounts.

To fall into that category the account needs to meet the following:
Have not logged in for 180 days OR have been registered for 1 year (365 days) AND Have 0 posts

Such accounts will be deleted without any notice other than this announcement. Eternal lurkers will just need to remake their accounts if they care to.

The forum will be closed while I do that, so I can rebuild the search database and other random maintenance related to so many users going *poof*. Shouldn't be more than an hour.

If you have any eternal lurker friends who don't bother reading news now would be a good time to encourage them to make a single post.

Can you livestream yourself eating anything that moves for an hour just so I'm not bored?

To delete them takes 30 seconds.

To delete them takes 30 seconds.

But you said you're doing more than just deleting.

Can you livestream yourself eating anything that moves for an hour just so I'm not bored?

Pretty sure nothing on this earth would take me more than 5 minutes to eat.

I could livestream myself coloring in some sketches my friends asked me to color.

If that sounds fun.

Yeah it does.

Wonder if he has some way to tell how many posts/if any somebody has made and then checks to see if they made a thread or said anything about not being here?

Too bad for them if they didn't.

6 month break?

Does this mean the related posts of those who haven't logged in for over 180 days get deleted?

Osayidan
07-15-2011, 02:48 PM
No one who has 1 post or more in their whole existence on nation is getting deleted. Only people with zero posts, who either have not logged in for 6 months or that are a year old.

So if you have 1 post and never logged in again: safe
0 post but log in every day for the past year: deleted
0 post and have not logged on for 6 months: deleted

I'm glad you're doing this - a lot less junk accounts clogging up the Calender for their supposed birthdays.

I wish you luck Osay!

No idea D: Didn't look.
If they matched the criteria to be deleted they all got deleted at the same time.

Gonna see a lot more people with cool names if any were taken.

Cool.

Time to take the names :thief:

But then, will the member numbers be out of order now? - I am still my original join-number :what:

Such as: say Member 1, 2, 3, and 4 joined in chronological order, but Member 3 was deleted.

Would they still be considered as the 1st, 2nd, and 4th members to join - so then no one will take 3's place?

With that, would the people who join recently have the incorrect "Number" when considering the total amount of existing members?

Osayidan
07-16-2011, 03:39 PM
The "I joined in Nth place" will be forever screwed up, and they already were from deleting individual users in the past.
Your ID numbers don't change though. If ID# 3 was deleted. #4 is still #4, the only thing is when actually counting from 1 to 4, 4 will be 3.
So no we're never again counting whose the Nth member to join cause our minds will explode

You make it sound like grave keeper work.

Well it kind of is, a profile with no posts that hardly logs in may as well just be a grave stone to let people know that user was here a long time ago.

You could watch the Big Brother live feeds, just Google free ones because I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link it. But yeah, hopefully here will be drama, but since it's not 11:00 in the Big Brother house, more than just Shelly will be awake.

What effect does deleting inactive users really have? Does it free up a bit of space? And if so, is it really much space at all?

Keeps the database clean and smaller.
It also keeps the website itself cleaner, no one cares about useless accounts and doesn't want to see them. So many users not having posted also makes the ratio of users and posts much lower.
