What are the skills like?

So far I've gathered that they have ranks and use AP but I also heard that some are passive and given the different combat system I'm not sure how the actives play out. I can't find any listing of them anywhere other than youtube though .-.

I'm hoping this doesn't cut down on the feasible number of combos one can pull off, since that would make a hack and slash game even faster to grow stale.

There's 3 types of skills so far:
Passive Skills: Works like in most MMOs; passive skills are active all the time. (X Armor mastery and the like)
Active Skills: They work by pressing a specific button / or combination of these. (Evies magic, fionas defense stance, shield bash, Lann's windmill, etc)
Smash Skills: The smash skills are your "strong" hits, like in any Beat 'em up; you have a weak and strong attack button; they are the combos, each smash skill is done by doing a specific succession of left and right clicks in a specific order.

You just gather the mats and the NPC crafts it.
You can make pots, armors, and other items like javelins, bombs, etc.
But it's not skill based.

And the active skills are you speical skills like blink,evies fingers of death
