Greetings players,

It is always frustrating when malicious players exploit systems through unintended gameplay mechanics as well as packet-editing and client modification. So what is the Mabinogi team doing to keep the game clean of malicious users?

- When serious threats to game-play emerge, we immediately inform devCAT and work with them to provide a server update as soon as possible. Our investigation team locates malicious game modification and hack files and provides the necessary information to devCAT. devCAT then uses this information to fix issues and look for other potential future problems.

- Players found guilty of game exploits, malicious game modification, and hacking have their Nexon accounts permanently banned. These players are not eligible for leniency.

- Players who are suspected of hacking get their Nexon account flagged. They are consistently monitored for abuse. Confirmed players are then subjected to the ban process. Accounts associated with the suspected account are also monitored for suspicious activity.

We’re working hard to discover causes of exploiting, packet-editing, and client modifications, and working to remove them from Mabinogi as soon as we can.

We’d also like to remind you that we’re all in this together. Your help is invaluable in finding these problems and we welcome and encourage player reports via the ticketing system. Together we can make Mabinogi a fun and safe place to be!

Thank you for your continuing support.

-The Mabinogi Team-

Personally it feels that they are just parroting what players have been saying for a long time, but I suppose if their contract says only devCat can fix in-game problems, then there should be no reason for server crashings since the NA party isn't split between developing new content and server maintenance.

If they ever get a contract renewal, they should add in some liberties on fixing things in-game.

Your thoughts?

Eh.. I never expected anything anywhere beyond that level and depth of announcement from Nexon.

unfortunately,
the only one who can fix things is DevCat
and only DevCat
This Nexon branch are just providing customer service and maintenance
(which they're not good at)

Sounds like a whole load of bull**** to be honest.

They should be able to fix things that happen, but I think it might be due to the fact that only Devcat knows the code and Nexon NA is afraid of screwing something up (again) because they changed something incorrectly.

On the other hand, it could be that DevCat doesn't let Nexon NA fix anything because an exploit that affects one version (ours?) has the potential to affect all of the other ones as well, so DevCat wants to know in advance what to try and fix.

My thoughts is that it's all words and no action whatsoever. I still see a ****ty economy. I still see hackers running around like they own the servers which they practically do with how much damage they are causing.

In the end, nothing has really changed and the problems still continue on. Nexon needs to step up to the plate cause we all know how good DevCat is with fixing problems by now >.>

I honestly don't think that Nexon has the capability to fix such serious errors. As far as I know they're not even capable of fixing smaller errors and actually maintain contact with devCat for the express purpose of making sure the game is running as it should.

A lot of it probably has to do with that Mabinogi (as much as we can love it) is very poorly programmed. It's pretty shocking.

If anything, if a server crashes or fails, it should be blamed wholly on Nexon NA fault because it's their duty to provide playable servers, lag reduction, and whatnot.

But for server crashings that happens because someone was using a development glitch (like duping), it's really a gray line.

Though it would be nice if the contract allowed some free programming or a DevCat member who is wholly dedicated to NA to fix and repair.

I'm guessing they're going to do mass bannings like what happened in Maple. The funny thing about Maple was that someone I knew who hacked over 100 levels only got a temp ban. I'm probably guessing that the ones who started this mess are going to get a temp too.

words words words
How about some visible action?
Sometimes I do feel bad for the PR puppet, , she gets thrown at the wolves den often, someone should get some heat off her over there.

The hackers will keep coming back and crashing duping and ruining everything just to spite nexon. Im sorry if im being a wet blanket about this topic but tbh with ****ty management, lack of any real customer service and an overall lack of interest in their game license i doubt this company will do anything to really do much about our problems/server problems/ hacking problems. they'll just keep making money off us until we all stop paying cut the game and save their losses, then go home to their hot model wives/husbands take a dip in their money pool and sit on their couches made of orphaned children as they plot and scheme on ways to make more money off us hard working schmucks.

Don't worry, they won't ban anyone.

Curious if the PR will say the exact same thing (again) in a short time span.

Not like I doubt banning and fixing will be temporary.

Methinks that if something is being done, it's being done so slowly it's hardly noticeable right now.

I feel the opposite is true. I was a gm last summer for aeria games (customer support only). It's way differn't on thier side of things. When you handle things like banning you have to be careful...mass banning can cause a negative effect for an mmo rather than positive. Banning offenserz will cause tuem to simply come back with new accounts causing more stress for the game you need to correct the glitch or exploit first and then ban.

If you ever paid much attention, they actually do ban people. They ban the serious offenders like they say. They won't announce who, but you can find out who just by looking at their whining in Nexon forums, which usually follows (or comes after) a series of server crashes.

Server crashes by players are flaws in the programming of a game due to specific modifications. Since it isn't possible to crash the server without some sort of modification, it makes it harder to get it fix completely. Not to mention, some people keep coming up with new methods.

oh look nexon is trying to give a sh*t about the game.
aha like that would ever happen.

they are probably calling the devcat designers to come over and fix everything

too bad devcat itself is hopelessly incompetent

they can't even design a workable game engine so they had to use source engine

no really, they're BAD; they should fire the programming division and just create content (and even their content is hit and miss)

Not enough to matter.
If they weren't so secretive about it, hell, if they posted who they banned less people would be doing it.
