I swear there used to be a thread giving tips on training dragons but I can’t find it, even with search.

I’ve been holding off on starting my dragon card because I wouldn’t be able to train it well as it aged up. Now I have time, and will probably make it on Saturday, but with restrictions. Here they are:

-I will probably miss Arc Lich spawn and am too weak to get good hits in.
-I will probably miss the banquet.
-I have one week starting this Saturday to get quality time with it, then two weeks in which I may or may not have time, then from then on only weekends which I probably won’t get much time in.

I can’t decide whether playing as the dragon and spamming runs in Tir in Alby would be better or letting it play alongside and die constantly on my Generation runs work. Or if I should do something special.

Or should I just forget serious serious training and just let it naturally level up these weeks…

This is a pretty simple but very effective way of leveling your dragon, but it might get dull after awhile.
Go just above the words 'Maiz Prarie" in area. Find black tailed mongooses, then log in as your dragon and just train there. Be sure to give it a money bag or have it's inventory a bit free because mongooses actually give a nice bit of cash. But aside from that, they give tons of exp, especially the ones with titles on them. I got around 2,000 exp per kill, and within like 15 minutes or more got from lvl 27 to 30 on my dragon.

Hm, would there be a large camping penalty?

Either way, thanks for the suggestion. That'll be helpful.

^ this is what I'm doing as-well.
If they manage to hit you a lot, just store some pots in your Dragons inv.

You really don't need to train pets.

Even if you level your dragon to lv 60 in one week, your dragon only get about 12 more max than other dragons.

Just carry it around while running shadow missions.

One of the primary reasons people train their dragons (no pun intended) is for the thunder/fire breath skill.

Flying mounts and fast ground pets will find Black Tailed Mongooses to be ideal, and since dragons are quite fast on ground and obscenely fast in air, they get the best of both worlds for this. Flying mounts have a larger advantage in early training than ground mounts in this area because they can do a combo, fly up in the air to drop aggro, then repeat. When I went there with my friend's dragon during the 2x weekend (I owed him a couple favors so I decided to train up his pet), I basically smashed, ran up to melee (knocking the mongoose back), flew up, landed, then either smashed or meleed again (depending on how much health was left). Once my Thunder Breath was maybe rank B-ish, I found it could one-shot mongooses, so once every 10 minutes I got to kill two or more simultaneously (just hope they don't run out of range). Using the total amount of time for Saturday and Sunday (about 4 hours of pet time), I was able to take the dragon from 1 to 46. You'll likely find yourself able to reach 36 after two days and 46 after four, as the 2x event is of course no longer active.

Killing Black Tailed Mongoose without service is pretty useless. I remember getting as low as 400 or so exp after a few kills. :<

On another note, I got my Gnu to lv30 by spamming Stones of Sliab Cuilin with it summoned in two days. o_o

Just a heads up, in G14EX field mob experience is increased by 1.3x

The best places to grind experience in Iria are at the Black Tailed Mongoose, Lions, Desert Bears and Ixions. Ixions are spread out pretty well but there's a large number of them and they drop decent loot. Desert Bears give a large amount of experience but they're the most difficult to kill and the variants worth killing are uncommon. It's best if you let a friend kill them while you loot the exp. Lions are the next step up from the Mongoose but they're pretty difficult for a pet to kill especially if that pet cannot fly.

You can summon your pet to fight alongside your character when running Shadow Cast City as the mobs give a large amount of experience. Rundal Siren HM also gives a large amount of experience. The banquet is also a good option for free pet experience though I would only use it for lower level pets.

abc33kr has the right idea regarding pets. The stats gained from actually training your pet are pretty lackluster. I've got a r1 Champion Borzoi with several r4 skills and while it's definitely better than your average pet, the difference is negligible once you start running hardmode shadow missions. You'll hit level 60 for r1 Thunder Breath eventually. Don't fret about it.

What the heck are you talking about? I got absolutely no service and got 2,000 EXP per kill on my dragon for ones with titles.

If you have someone that can help you get a finish to a Dragon or a big field boss, it gives a lot of EXP as well. Other than that, do the Black Tailed Mongooses with the Angry title on your pet, since it doesn't kill you so much when you're not used to your pet.

And as for Arc Lich method...No, don't use Ghost Swords, they're a waste of time and materials for this. Do it with this method: Long read.

Too weak to get hits in? That's not the way you were normally supposed to kill the Arc Lich. The easy way is to go blow yourself up with the Bomb Steeds, while having a Camp Kit.
Another reason to do Arc Lich is probably the drops of Arc Lich (-CP) burnable item, and the Kira Floral Robe Manual, and also the Tera V-Line Armor Manual as well. All of the rest is kinda useless at the moment, and there's also quite a bit of gold.

>Be on your character. Yes, it's obvious, but yeah. Summon your pet only when you have a nice finish on the Arc Lich though after blowing it up.

>Get a Mana Tunnel to Rupes Desert at the minimum. Sundays gives you the most time to kill it. In-game, it spawns at 8:00 PM at Metus, and disappears at 6:00 AM in-game time.
When you get used to killing it, it should only take you 2-3 minutes at most.

>Missing the Lich spawns? Not really...Long as you camp in a channel whereas there are no people to try to mess your Bomb Steeds up and you arrive before the time it spawns at Metus, then you're good.
An additional tip for you can be that you can get a Mana Tunnel to Filia to do Holy Water Job too, in the morning in game when the Lich is dead or gone. You can also do lost elves riding a pet all the way to Filia or walking, at the night-time whereas you cannot do the Holy Water PTJ.

Just be productive, it's rewarding. Or you can sit in Metus center and then just go off and watch some TV when you get lazy.

>Set up a Camp Kit, to revive at. Only costs 150 NX, and you could probably get a bit of Nx from surveys. If you get killed without a Camp Kit, then your only options are to revive at previous Warp Point or Revive on spot or Wait for Rescue. Hence why.

>Wait for the Arc Lich. At 8:00 PM on Sundays, it spawns for more time, giving you more time to kill it. Especially helpful if you're all new to it.
De-spawns at 6:00 AM in-game on Sundays. But you should have plenty of time to kill it before then.

>When it spawns, it takes a bit to summon Bomb Steeds. You can probably get a pet and land 2 hits in it to ensure you get a finish just in-case someone might be there trying to steal your finish, etc.
Usually using your character to do this gets you aggroed by the Lich and 1 death from doing so, so de-summon your pet when it summons the steeds.
Note that it will not summon steeds until there is only 1 steed or none leftover. As long as there are two Bomb Steeds summoned, it will not summon anymore.

Yes, Prison Ghosts and a lot of them are usually there summoned after a while, don't fret about those, try to get as many steeds aggroed onto you before they charge up magic or start aggroing you.
Play Dead is what you're supposed to do when you get a bunch of steeds aggroed onto you.

>Your objective is to blow up the Arc Lich with the Bomb Steeds. Only when the Bomb Steeds start walking after being summoned, they will start their aggro. Do not attack them at all.
Wait for them to aggro you, and Play Dead as close to the Arc Lich as possible, possibly under it or whatever is best.
Also, note that you have to probably play dead at least twice before the steeds explode, which means getting their aggro twice, since they seem to drop off aggro now, after a period of time.

>When the steeds are flashing red, means they're starting to explode. When they flash red really fast, they'll explode soon. Once they're all red and stop flashing, they'll ignite and explode right there, causing around 1k + damage each steeds blow that hits the Lich.
If you can get all of the steeds to hit on impact, the Lich would be half HP or less, which is very nice. Sometimes it teleports and evades the explosions, but don't fret, you'll have more chances.

When the bomb steeds are flashing bright red and all and about to explode, and the Lich loads Ice Spear, cancel play dead and be hit by its Ice Spear.
This causes the Bomb Steeds to charge where you are, and since Ice Spear freezes you for a while, they'll run towards you but not hit you. If done right, they'll explode after running towards you, making it easier to hit the Lich the closer you are to it.

Hopefully, the summoned Prison Ghosts don't hit you before that Ice Spear does.

Yes, it will kill you, quickly revive at your Camp and repeat. Press Esc to load up the menu faster to revive.
Sure that you lose some exp while doing this, but the penalty isn't as heavy reviving at Camp.

>After you've repeated it and killed it and have the finish, there should be a finish sign on it. Summon your pet and then hit that finish, getting both exploration exp and normal exp.

Pick up your drops, and then just die from the Prison Ghosts and revive at camp, or try to run to your camp.
