I don't know about you, but I might just try Maple Story just to see what it's like now.

I thought I read something about them implanting PvP now of some sorts, and that the EXP rates are MUCH better now. Also, they got an Engineer class that gets to use cool mini-mechas.

I don't know about you, but I love Engineer classes.

So, yeah. I'm gonna download it and try it again just to see what's what? Anyone else gonna try it?

I've been playing on and off for a few months with some friends. And just a heads-up, the Mechanic class is kind of disliked by a lot of people, so I hope people won't give you a hard time. xD

nah, every new class they add is overpowered = you starting new

The mechanic class is good for PvP, but don't worry about being disliked. People hate dual bladers A LOT more than anything else. I know I do...

PvP is actually extremely unbalanced right now.
It's not based on damage so much as hits. Before my third job, I only had two attacking skills. Short ranged multi-hit Storm Break, and slow pathetic double hit. I was a wind archer. Usually I couldn't do much damage at all, so I'd sneak in when everybody was half-dead and SB them all to death.
Doesn't work anymore, though. I think they changed the HP balance. I basically get OHKO'd by all DBs and all mechs without being able to do any damage at all. Thing is, wind archers have slow hits that hit really really hard. Since damage isn't really in the equation, I can dominate PvE, but I'm completely useless in PvP.

Oh also, I've had parties in PPQ and ghost ship kick people out because they were mechs. Nobody wants KS in PPQ and mechs either make FFS unfair or they throw off the balance for trade wins.
Of course, everybody wanted wind archer after level 70 >__> OP as hell. The extra AP finally pays off with the crazy damage multiplier skills and transformation.

...I only understood half of what you said. You lost me on those "FFS" and OHKO and DBs and BBQ. Can you explain what each initials mean?

Oops, I meant FFA. Which is when parties just duke it out instead of trade winning. OHKO = one hit knock out. DB = Dual blade. BBQ? O-o.... well PPQ means pirate party quest. The on in Herb Town.

Anyways, I'm still gonna go Engineer.

I keep calling it Engineer for some reason when it's Mechanic.

Anyways, so far I'm really liking the class. Fighting enemies so far seems rather easy. Maybe it's just me and my build, but so far, the Flamethrower seems much better than the Gatling Gun, and the Drill attack seems to not be of a whole lot of use so far.

I'm already almost level 20.

Also, what is an "Android"?

You can make one with crafting, and it's basically a pet. The recipes and parts are hard to get, though.

Mechs are OP in general, so it's no surprise you find things easier. It's easy to get to level 40 in one day since the resistance quests carry you so far. Also with the mobility of a mech or a wild hunter, you can move around much faster and finish quests really quick.

Sounds like I made a good choice for now. Still, I almost feel guilty playing as an OP class, but since it's one that's so cool and different and since nerfs will possibly happen at some point, I don't care!

Also, I saw an android, and it's not what I was hoping for. I was expecting something more robo looking.

Drill attack is used to put enemies infront of you. And flame thrower is first AoE skill, of course it's better than single skill gatling gun. Gatling gun is more DPS, I would say. Single target DPS.

Maple is getting interesting, but I really hate how they started off with a couple of nice classes, then whoops! Let's add a dozen more, it's so annoying. And the fact that explorers get their mounts at late levels compared to most classes (most around 10 or 30 now), it angers me. But one thing that bugs me more, is that monster cards are back. They've been improved, but some of us can't get the Prime Minister card or some other cards now.

To be fair, getting to level 70 is fairly easy... But I do see what you mean.

And yes, I haven't seen a game with so many classes like MapleStory. They should balance current classes before releasing more to be honest.

Wind archers also get transformation at level 70, which is pretty OP, but then again, they have terrible skills until then, so I guess it evens out.

Using a cool OP mini-mecha is fun and all, but I kinda wonder what is the Battle Mage like. I like the cash shop equipment for one.

Claudia
08-15-2011, 03:28 PM
Exactly, that's one of the problem of so many class: Gotta try 'em all!

And even though they added the quest for the class-specific hat at level 18, normal Explorers still fall flat compared to any newer classes, except for maybe Thieves, because there are less offshoots of that class and Thieves were good/OP to begin with.

And then they get a revamp after Jump. Joy joy, just what they need.

The only reason why I have Explorer characters nowadays is because of shared Cash Shop, and for my Beginner, because a traditional Beginner is easier to recognize than a Citizen/Legend/Dragonless Evan.

Battles mages are pretty OP. Not as much as mech, but they're really fun (for me). I mean, whats better than teleporting all over the place while doing massive damage?

When compared to the mobility of the rest of the Resistance, though, battle mages fall quite short. Teleport used to be the fastest way to travel, but not anymore. Their damage is also pretty low compared to things like Cygnus Knights, then again, most jobs can't measure up to CK damage up until the cap for the knights.

BaMs get Teleport Mastery, which lets their teleports do damage. Which is completely baller.
Blood Drain saves thousands of potions.
Dark Genesis bro.
Auras. Need I say more?

The skills on a BaM are pretty handy, you gotta say.

Whats really funny is that my friend came over, who has some pretty high level'd characters and is funded, looked at my barely funded BaM's damage and was screaming "OHHHH PEEEE" all over the place.

Oh, and about my Prime Minister comment, I heard that Nexon made a Maple Leaves event where you could buy monster cards that you missed. Is this true?

Claudia
08-15-2011, 09:13 PM
Not that i've heard.

On the subject of BaMs, it really irks me that they have more HP than MP.
And it's even more annoying that, at least in first job, they suck up BOTH types of pots like holy freakin' hell.
I've honestly never used a class that needed more pots.
Doesn't help that Edelstein monsters seem to drop a lot less pots than Victoria monsters...

My friend keeps urging me to join MS again, saying that the PvP is now one of the better ways to gain experience as a noob rather than constant PQ spam (I hated PQs in MS since they only let one party in at a time per channel), and this is why I should ditch my old character and start over again, especially when the EXP curve has been lowered.

I still say no.

PvP isn't fast, but its pretty fun for a couple hours. It'll feel faster.
However, the game changed from PQ spamming to mass grinding on monsters.

I'm intrigued, actually. I've had the hate on it for a while 'cause the concept just seemed so dumb, but for lack of anything else to do, I might give it a shot.

Nexon better change pvp back, it's current state makes it no fun, I die in 3 hits on my level 168 aran to a level 128 DB... That wasn't happening before, I usually on top.

Late reply.

No one PQ's anymore, it's horrible Exp. Even training is faster than Carnival PQ Lv30~50. Training > Everything Else for Lving.

CPQ has become pretty much useless. You can get much more exp just grinding on monsters or doing the Mushroom Kingdom quests.

Mushroom Kingdom will get you to around 40.. and then you can go kill CDs in Kerning Mall for a while.

wasn't that hard anyways.
I just thinkit's dumb that the people that had to get to the higher levels before the two extreme EXP curves get no compensation.

Actually CPQ is handy at around those levels. The only reason I grinded on CDs was because I refused to CPQ.

It's incredibly easy to reach 3rd/4th job now. Lv70~110 takes less than 24 hours total. You can probably do it in a day if you no life for a day.

Replying to the older posts, it's mostly the style of the BaM that I like.

Replying to the newer ones: I hope they do fix the PvP soon. Part of the reason I didn't even play Maple Story before was the fact that it felt like I was doing the same thing again and again.

For Example: Go here, do quest to grind on over dozens of mobs, go there, do a quest to grind for over dozens of something dropped by specific mobs, get some more skills, move to another colorful area with new wallpaper and grind on over 100 of some other kind of mob, etc.

But at least now they're trying to add a little more content to the game, and at least for now, I can easily plow through two-hundred and something mobs with a cool mini-mech.

With a drill attack that lets me line all the little chickies up in a row in front of me and a flamethrower that lets me flambé them, it's not hard at all. I just hope it doesn't say TOO easy.

I'm still learning the game terms, so I can't reply entirely well to some.

Don't forget Mercedes and Demon Slayer.
Maplestory Legend is after Jump!.

Claudia

Meh, forgot about them.

Don't really care. Mercedes could be cool but WH was good enough to tide me over.
Also, Jump!, is more than enough as far as Archers are concerned.

Though, i'm glad they finally get their due.

Oh, ok. For some reason, possibly not a very cryptic one, I'm still not that interested in playing this game much more. It's nice in some ways, but it doesn't feel like a game I can become dedicated to playing for a long time.

Does anyone consider this game to be better or worse than before the big bang and stuff happened?

Claudia
08-20-2011, 07:16 PM
I think it's a mix of both.
The changes to the EXP was a good call, as well as general enhancements on Victoria.
Professions, also exciting.

The bad? They keep adding and adding content. There's just too many character classes, too many places, too many things to do.

Justin1221

That just sounds so weird. A game adding more content which makes it worse? I mean you could revert it back to the beta days where all you had and will ever have to do was to kill jr. balrog.

Indeed.
One thing is the community is the same, if not worse.

The problem is that it's a glut of content that's useless and obvious filler.
Plus Evan/DB is annoying because you almost HAVE to buy NX to get all their skills.
