HG/SS, due to the all the new mechanics that were added in Gen 3 and Gen 4.

Eusine and the whole Suicune plot is included into the games too, just like in Crystal.

GSC

only thing HGSS has on it is the remixed battle themes and Pokeathalon.
I want to catch them all, all 251 of them as opposed to 386. Too many to work with.

HG and SS, since they have all the designs and whatsoever from the previous games that came out...Looks really nicer and cleaner. D:

The amount you have to catch just always keeps increasing, no matter what you do. But that's supposed to be the fun of when you start a new game and have to keep transferring your Pokemon around every game to the newest one to keep up to date. Your Poke's have to go wherever you go. :fail3:

Race to completion is pretty much having the game consoles to trade them around in as well, which I find kinda funny.

I don't remember too much, since I have been transferring a lot around and am continuously working on my Poke's on the Black Version. >>

HG by a landslide. I thoroughly enjoyed Gold when I played it and I still do play it to this day along with Pokemon Stadium 2 (Damn you R2!!!) but HG...it took what I loved about the recent games and put it into Gold. Remixed music, better graphics and best of all....YOUR POKEMON CAN FOLLOW YOU AROUND!!!!! I love walking around with Mew and asking him how he's feeling. It does make you feel worried however, when say, your scyther pokes you in the tummy D:! That stuff can actually hurt you know. . .

I like them both.
HG/SS was awesome, because it was all modernized and whatnot, plus your first pokémon followed you around.
However, you can't not miss the classics.

HG/SS

All the things that made the originals classics, but improved anything that weren't aren't as good. The graphics, while good back in 2000, are incredibly aged by today's standards, so the revamped graphics are great, and improved over D/P/Pt's graphics. The music, which again were awesome in '00, are pretty shoddy today, since it only has 4 channels for sound, which really limits the sound quality, so the update to the DS audio is greatly appreciated (as well as having an item that let's you listen to the 8bit sounds as well for true nostalgia).

The ability to have one of your Pokemon walk behind you is nice, and the option should have been available in B/W. Necessary, no, but a nice feature none the less. Hell, if they made it so that the Pokemon that's out of it's Pokeball gain friendship at twice the normal speed of a Pokemon inside a Pokeball, and a bonus point every 10 minutes and you talk to it, then I'm sure everyone would love it, instead only those that thinks the feature is cute. The Pokeathlon and a functioning Safari Zone are nice additions as well, since it gives the player something new to do with the game.

Only problems I had with the remake are that they replaced Crystal with Lyra, which I think is stupid. With FR/LG, they released Green, who many have speculated to be the original heroine in R/B before GameFreaks dropped her from the game (though you can still see an image of her in the instruction manual), with an updated appearance, while still keeping her design relatively the same. They should have done the same for Crystal, if only because she was the first released heroine in Pokemon games, instead of making a new character, that only has 1 similar characteristic with Crystal, and that's the twin pigtails that come from the backsides of her hair. Otherwise, she's a completely new character unrelated to the original.

The other being that they removed the slot machines from the game, and replaced it with a minesweeper clone. While once you get the hang of the cardflip game, it becomes easy, it feels too much more of a grind to get coins compared to the slot machines.

HG/SS are superior in my eyes. Clearly, there's a lot more to do and more features as well as a graphical overhaul. I also LOVED the fact that they added in the "GB Sounds" item, seeing as I like classic gaming music a lot.

G/S/C will always have the feeling of nostalgia though. As well as a different less convoluted game mechanics. If you ever wanted to just play and have fun without worrying about the best EV/IVs competitively with your friends, (via your link cable lol) this would be where you'd do it. (though were EV/IVs introduced later or in this generation?) I love all the old graphics, fonts, sprites, and more importantly the old sounds.

As much as I nostalgia over the awesomeness that was Gen II, clearly the new ones are superior unless you like old school stuff, and value looks over gameplay.

Well, Lyra actually isn't totally unrelated. She was the beta, version of Crystal, so it seems. If you do a bit of digging, you'll find small images of her. Well, at least from what I can make out, it seems to be her. She could be a throw back to what was intended, but was in the end replaced with Crystal.

Also, I'm totally with you on the game corner. Card flips were just stupid compared to the awesome that was the slot machines.

They did a fantastic job redoing this game without ruining anything. I actually prefer it to black/white, but w/e

I like both generations 2 and 4, but I gotta say HG/SS.

All the features from the previous generations, plus new content. Sure, most of it is for event pokemon, but that's nothing a little AR can't get you in on :P

While I haven't personally played through HG/SS, it is undeniably more fun to play due to how clunky the older games were. The recent games have streamlined so much, it just feels way too slow to play the originals.

Still love G/S/C though, wonderful memories of those as they were my first Pokemon games (Gold and then Crystal).

Necro'd FTW?

I like the newer versions better. They were a good portrayal of the original games, but also modern enough to be extra nice.

Somewhat changed my stance, HGSS isn't bad, but Crystal has a really special place in my heart.

I'd say that ideally, people should play both, preferably G/S/C first.

I prefer the original Gold/Silver. I don't like to include Crystal in the trio just because it introduced the hated Battle Tower.
That place seriously hates me in every game.
