I'd probably have the skills in more horizontal than vertical rows then I'd have them as the background with the text embedded over them and the other text and character suffixed on top of that.

There's a lot of different ways I could go with it.

edit: Yeah... I guess that's it. You could probably mess around with some fonts & whatnot or something and get creative with it. Hard to do much more while keeping those skills visible though. I mean, I had some ideas for like a pixel based kinda looking thing, but eh... whatever.
