View Full Version : [Cooking] What is your favorite thing to make/prepare?

So, since we need to stimulate the idea of a cooking/food forum, I figure i'd start off with a simple thread and a simple question; what is the thing/meal you enjoy making the most?

It can be something really simple, or really complex, a full dinner, a breakfast, or even a dessert. It can be something that's really fun/hard to make, or something that's fairly simple and just tastes amazing.

As for me? Well, I don't know if I have one favorite...but I really like to make mac and cheese.

I feel this huge satisfaction when my roux is nearly done, and later on when I serve it and everybody just digs in. It's a lot of work, but it's really worth it.

How about you?

Baking. The smell is unbelievable. And I love pastry.

Oh yes, baking. ~
Especially when I make pumpkin quick bread, it's all I can smell in the kitchen for hours.

Also, watching my breadmaker work its magic is great amusement.

I just like making food in general. D:

oh, inoino, making food is fun.

Making meringue is hard, because the one time I tried it, I screwed it up horribly and it tasted dreadful. ;_;
(and everybody blamed it on me hurrrrrrr.)

So that wasn't fun. D:

But guys, you have to watch a breadmaker sometime. It's AWESOME.

I love making omelettes, especially 'cause you can stuff just about anything in them. My flipping needs some work, though...

Other than that, Penne alla Vodka. :glare:

...And other than that, anything that requires baking.

I was gonna' say exactly that @_@

But really, it's just fun to throw a bunch of random stuff in some eggs.

I always end up ripping my omelets. :<

Anyways, I made zucchini bread for the first time about a month ago, and it was amazing.

My favorite thing to cook is probably fried cellophane noodles.

I just cook omelettes or cellophane noodle soup when I'm lazy 8D

Zucchini bread. Is. Awesome.
Anything with zucchini in it is amazing, really.

Also, I made a butternut squash pie on Sunday...I thought it was going to be terrible, but it's just as good, if not better, than pumpkin pie.

and even though it's not much, my absolute favorite thing to prepare is.. chai tea. with honey, vanilla extract and sugar asdghsgs

:blood:

i'll sometimes add whipped cream and cinnamon to make it aesthetically pleasing, but it doesn't do much for the flavor or anything

Ive wanted a mixer for so long now. I love to bake, and a mixer would make things so much easier~

I like making hot chocolate with a dash of cayenne pepper. Its great when it's cold outside :D
Oh, and brownies with crush mint and extra chocolate.

I haven't made much besides normal cheesecake, but Skye & I found this amazing recipe for cookies n' cream cheesecake cupcakes that is just...

I ought to branch out, though! I've only actually made a plain cheesecake once or twice.
I think i've had something like a marble cheesecake before, it was the most delectable thing I have ever ingested in my life. It. Was. Fabulous.

Two of my favorite things to make are my Curry and Chicken & Leek Soup, a recipe I came up with awhile back for my Mom and I when we had the FLU.

Otherwise, Baking is my major passion. I don't like sweets, nor do I ever eat what I bake (unless it's white cake with chocolate chips, unf), but the baking itself is calming to me.
I can't really decorate for sh*t, though.

My thoughts exactly, tbh. But it sucks when you're making cookies.
I make gingerbread crumbles a lot during the Winter season, but I've never bothered with gingerbread men because they'd turn out plain and oogly.

Pasta. It's incredibly simply to make and it's one of my favorites. Makes me think I'm a little bit of Italian at heart. Heck, I've started to get quite attached to Olive Oil for cooking.

Can't really think of a favorite but I do enjoy making pizza from scratch, either use whole wheat large pita bread instead of a traditional crust, or I make my own dough for deep dish. Make the sauce too. Wish I knew how to make pepperoni, i'd make that from scratch as well just for fun.

Oh my gosh! You definitely need to branch out! Only plain cheesecake? Tsk! But no seriously, try baking a marble next time it's soooo good. Also, the cookie and cream is delicious as well. I would also recommend a Key Lime Cheesecake if you like Key Lime, quite possibly the best tasting fruit one I've ever tried.

Good lord, THIS.
I JUST DON'T DECORATE THINGS ANYMORE, THEY ALWAYS LOOK UGLY AND I FEEL SAD. Besides, nobody really cares and I myself generally end up scraping off frosting, even on cake. I don't like the sugary stuff and the whipped-ish icing just tastes icky and hurts my stomach as well.

I KNOW, I'M SO BORING. (I REALLY LOVE BLAND FOOD.)
I'll try a recipe for the marble, and the cookies and cream I might make for the holidays, so I can give them to people. ~

Have you tried home-made icing? You could also try fondant if you can get your hands on it.

I have a recipe somewhere that I use for my Mom since she hates sugar-y icing, but I think it's creamcheese.

i love how fondant looks too. i bought a small fondant "starter kit" but i'm saving it til i get better at decorating and at least know some basic stuff. the girls are teaching me at the bakery i work at but piping even the simplest words is not easy ~_~

fondant is good for a nice and clean look imo but i hear the packaged stuff tastes terrible and it's better to use homemade fondant. though i don't even know how to make that

@otto i know, i've wanted one since earlier this year, but the good ones aren't cheap :( kitchenaid mixers run from $210 to $350 afaik x.x

I have some background in that.

To be honest though most of it is a drag and I actually don't have the muscle to make half the stuff Koreans make. So much messaging of the food involved...

I can do pasta, since that's really easy. But I'm lazy with the sauces, so I try to add a bit of my own seasoning when I like.

I might have to brush up on baking, just because bread is great and sweets too.

I've gotten a little better at stir-frying over flames, apparently. That's what my uncle said when I was trying (and failing) to make shrimp lo mein.

I would take those insta-ramen that you boil over the stove and add a bouilon cube to make it taste better. Heck, if I had it, I would add chicken stock I made/bought. Then, I would add an egg that I cooked enough that the white was cooked but the yolk was still very runny. It tastes great that way.

I also used to like making banana bread or banana pudding. They're both really good and they help keep muscle cramps away, too.

Never done much with ramen (I eat mine plain, without flavoring), but once I just put shrimp in plain ramen. It was...actually pretty good.
(Also, now i'm tempted to try egg whites D:)

And banana bread? I love banana bread! I want to try making a banana bread with chocolate chips, or something like that, soon.
Never done banana pudding, but it looks really simple and sounds pretty interesting.

Also, i'm making the macaroni and cheese right now, but we have no milk, so I have to wait to make my roux. QQQQ.

But hey, I can't even flip a pancake or a grilled cheese. Stir-fry? Don't even.

Stir-fry doesn't really involve as much "air action" you see others do. But you need to properly expose the ingredients so they don't get burnt while you're frying them. Of course an easy ("lolno") way to evenly fry like that is to move the ingredients around while they're in the air.

Also, i'm making the macaroni and cheese right now, but we have no milk, so I have to wait to make my roux. QQQQ.

Usually the heat and moisture from the macaroni are decent substitute for the cheese if you don't have milk.

Ever try mac and cheese with sour cream instead of milk or butter/margarine?

I love making enchiladas and omelettes. But sometimes I can't flip properly and get angry over it tearing when I flip it too early. Pfft, chunks taste good though, so success. I usually make enchiladas or pancakes in the morning for my family before they head off to work, anyways. \o/

Baking biscuits is also good as well. It's quick and easy, and only usually takes like 20 minutes of my time. It's great for snacks and such when I'm in a rush. :>

As for preparing, I like preparing the table for food. Make it all nice and fancy and just feel satisfied by my work. >:C
