Over estimated the graphics D:
Can certainly use some high res and shader mods.

the differences the cat sees is the textures of the tree leaves and the shadows
and also the distance that the buildings show their textures
anyways skyrim is a port from console
you cant polish turds to the point where it isnt a turd

Going to need some serious modding to cure it of consolitis.
****ing consoles :|
Looks exactaly the same.
Not at all.
Huge difference of shadow rendering.
Texture size is much lower in lower settings.
Details in the distance are much improved in higher settings.
And the smoke particle looks better on higher settings.
But yeah, the game doesn't seem to look as good as it should on a PC.

I wouldn't mind playing this with low settings.

Honestly doesn't look that much better than a graphic enhanced Oblivion.
The only good thing is the animations and models are better, and the shading is better. Textures are a joke.
The good thing is of course, that mods will fix all this in due time, and the game itself is damned awesome.

After playing this, I have to say it looks pretty, but it's nothing amazing. I think it looks a bit better than those screenshots give credit for.
Truth be told, I never liked Bethesda's art style. I found Morrowind, Oblivion, and both Fallout games graphically ugly. It tries to be realistic, but in a way that makes it actually look less realistic and more like a computer generated model. I definitely don't get this feeling as much anymore in Skyrim, but it's still there.
Remember what Morrowind looked like?

Yeah, I realize it's old. But I'm sure you can still see that "that look" hasn't gone away. That's my problem with their art style.
I have to say the environments are generally nice. It's more of just the look of people.

I just played it a bit before work.
Nowhere near as bad as that screenshot made it look, and I haven't experienced any bugs (at least none that I realized)

Because console versions probably sell better. Few people are going to have a $1,000+ computer but many people are going to have a $200 PS3 or $150 360.

Open the launcher.
I dislike that graphics style.
Blah, yeah. Really was quite bad on older consoles despite people saying otherwise. But as technology improves it'll start to become a better graphical style, imo, as things will look less and less like blocky, computer generated 3D models.
