I accidentally killed my dog.

I don't get how companion killing works. Sometimes I try to kill them and they're invincible, get back up after a bit. Sometimes I shoot them with one arrow and they die.

Sounds about right. Was talking to a noble on a horse, he basically told me to **** off so I was about to kill him but a dragon did it for me. Swooped in and stole his guard and then burned everything.

Oh, I knows that noble, he was probably going to that wedding thingy at solitude.

I found those nobles a couple of times, and last time I saw them, they were near Markarth, arguing between the two, the woman was shoeless, the man was in ragged shirts, they were saying they got attacked by bandits, which killed their Bodyguard and stole everything from them. I killed them afterwards to end their misery.
