Between my parents and I, we eat a lot of food. Basically (except for myself), we are your stereotypical overweight Americans. As much as we like to eat food, we also love to share it with friends.

And while I like to make pretty pies and whatnot, there are very few things I love more than making and serving this recipe, whether it's been sitting on the table waiting for my parents to come home from work, or it's fresh out of the oven for a dozen of our closest friends gathered around the dinner table, or it's last night's leftovers that my history teacher and I are eating between classes. It's not the fanciest or trickiest thing to make, but it's a hearty meal (and while it's not the healthiest thing you'll ever eat, it's actually not too bad for you) that fills you up.

I realized I just prattled on for two paragraphs regarding potatoes, but that's okay. I also took some pictures with my horrificly terribad phone, if you're interested.

Without further ado...

EASY POTATO BAKE
1 container (16 oz.) sour cream
1 package (8 oz.; I generally use a 16 oz. bag) shredded cheddar cheese
1 can (10.75 oz.) cream of chicken soup
1 cup chopped green onions (the easiest way to do this is to just cut them with scissors into really tiny pieces)
1 package (32 oz.) frozen hash browns, thawed. (The bags I get come in 20 oz., so I just use two full bags of 20 oz. each)
1 cup crushed corn flakes
2 tablespoons butter/margarine, melted.

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Mix sour cream, cheese, soup, and onions in a large bowl.
3. Add potatoes and mix well.
4. Spoon into a greased 13x9 baking dish.
5. Bake for 45 minutes. In the meantime, crush up the corn flakes, toss the flakes with butter, and after it's done baking, sprinkle over the potato dish.
6. Bake an additional 15 minutes.

So there you have it! It's really yummy, so hopefully you guys'll try it out. ~

Pictures:
I'm making this right now, so I haven't baked it yet (serving it for dinner tonight), so more pictures coming soon. YESTHEQUALITYSUXX.

That sounds REALLY good. I love hash browns too.
I will most likely try this out, if I can convince my parents ... although the corn flakes kinda shocked me.

Are you talking about the cereal? Or am I just not thinking right now? O_O

Would this work with cutting the potatoes yourself? and what about other shapes like tiny cubes (diced)? Never seen hash browns sold like that.
Also, it sounded really good until the cornflakes part... isn't that breakfast cereal? seems sweet and out of place even though they're good by themselves.

Yeah, it's the cereal.
When I first saw the recipe, I was like "LOLWUT THAT'S A TYPO", but it's not.
I don't think it adds much in the way of flavor, but it does sort of add texture, although it's a bit mushy thanks to the butter. It does taste good, though.

As for the potatoes, not sure. I imagine you can cut the potatoes yourself, but i'm not sure about dicing it. I think it'd work, but it would dramatically change the shape of the dish.

This looks familiar to what my Dad's girlfriend makes, although she calls it Texas Potatoes. (Or something)

She uses the cube hash browns instead of the shredded, though.

Also for the corn flakes bit, I think Osay and Episkey are thinking about Frosted Flakes? They need to be the not frosted kind xD

So I just had dinner...

Was delish. As you can see, I had to substitute in breadcrumbs because SOMEBODY either forgot to buy cornflakes or ate them all (dunno, I wasn't home on shopping day). I can see why you're supposed to use cornflakes now...the breadcrumbs are a bit harsh, especially since you already have all that cheese in there. The slight sweetness of the corn flakes balances the cheese out. Nonetheless, it was delicious. Can't wait for tomorrow's leftovers.

Frosted Flakes was the first thing to come to my mind. But then I realized it said corn flakes. The one with the rooster and all?
My surprise was that fact that it was a cereal. But, I guess bread crumbs would work too ... although I shouldn't be so put off by the whole cereal topping. I've used weirder ingredients before :p
