So, like, spoiler:
I read up on the series a bit and found the conclusion. Shion has a demon king's spirit inside of him while Ryner has the opposing king into of him. There's a rebellion and the two are pit against each other. The thing that's so cliche about this is that Shion goes from being a goody-goody to a dick.

hence the less upbeat OP (anime directors dont just hire some RANDOM group to use their song for an OP most anime development teams use Opening songs that mean something to the time of the anime, a parody or meaning through the words)

Kinda late by a month though, and I'm sure that was more of a statement than a question. Anyway it's just because the plot is getting much more deep. Most of all the characters have been introduced and are being incorporated into the plot in some way, to the point of which there's basically three main perspectives we're watching the plot from, each with their only conflicts with one another.
