I started cooking today and realized I needed a cup of milk to make the sauce. Which was not good since I had the last cup of milk this morning eating cereal.

So I mixed half cup of water, and half cup of banana milk (as my closest possible substitute). I figured the consistency of the milk would make the sauce work while the water would dilute the flavor down.

Do not do this. Flavored milk is not a valid substitute for milk in cooking. Ever.

Ever.

Why would you put banana milk o.o doesn't seem like a good substitute for me

God forbid I try with chocolate milk.

Chocolate chicken linguine.

I absolutely hate this. If don't have milk, you're pretty much screwed. The only real substitute it has is water, and you'll have to fine alternative means to thicken sauces and whatnot without ruining the original flavor profile.

I should've taken my mom's advice. I'll buy some corn starch the next time I go shopping.

It helps if you check what you'll need to make something before you go or while you're shopping.
