Like many Mabinogians, new and old, some have issues or difficulty 'stickin to their guns'.

Many of these situations are skill builds, character builds, or goals pertaining to their characters/Fantasy life.

It's a good idea to get comfortable with the game. But it isn't a good idea to throw away your AP to try out a new skill you'll get bored with after a few days of messing around with it.

AP is generally a scarce thing for many casual/not so serious players. This is normal.
Keep in mind what you want to be capable of in this game, or what kind of gameplay style you'll be in.

Many powerful/useful skills take a CRAP-ton of AP, time and money to rank/raise or train.

In example, skills like Advanced magics, Ice spear/Thunder/Fireball;
These Skills Eat AP...

To use these skills efficiently and properly, it is a good idea to Max them out at the appropriate time in your Characters life. (Bear in mind, the Combat power that will be added when ranking these)

To use myself as an example, since I'm an archer, naturally I would rank range skills to 1 to be a proficient archer. When I had rank 5 Arrow Revolver, I was getting a little bored of range, so I decided to start working on Thunder.

BAD IDEA

My dex wasn't all that great and I kinda left archery, which was my main genre of fighting, blowing in the wind.

I got thunder to rank 6, which takes of a nice amount of AP on it's own. I noticed that I had stunted my characters combat ability, so... Instead of just training and getting the AP to finish AR, I bought skill reset capsules, (Thank you nexon for listening to my Forum post about this on the Nexon Forums) and deranked Thunder to A, and finished AR to 1.

I cannot tell you how much of a good idea this was, I was able to put holes my in enemies insanely fast. But it dented my CP up to 1200... That's fine with me, though.

Now that I am comfortable with all my skills, I want to beef my Character up with some sweet Advanced magic, Fireball/Ice spear are staying at rank 9 for a while, but thunder is going straight to rank 1 no matter what.

I am both excited and impatient to rank Thunder to 1, I have to keep telling myself not to use the AP I have on other stuff I want to work on.

=Sorry for the bit of a rant but I thought it'd give some insight on why this is important to players=

Take a look at your character, figure out what you want... and work to get there without stopping.
All the while keep in mind what you're getting yourself into.

Mabinogi is a Game that is designed to be time consuming.
This game will eventually play itself out once you max your characters skills/stats.
Which, I'm assuming would be around total level 4000.

I hope this "guide" helps you, or anyone with their Mabi-life.

Yes, I know XD. I am very well capable of writing with better form, but when I write stuff like this I tend to write like I'm talking to someone.

Which can sound hectic.

Kinda like when I talk about technology to people who aren't tech Saavy XD

Good guide.
I've been doing that thing - ranking other things when I get bored,
or simply because I'm interested in them xD
I want reset skill capsules now.

Definitely good guide, and it reminded me to keep on track. I've been veering way, way off lately.
I suppose it's time for me to get my priorities of skill ranking in check.

The title is a little ambigous, but otherwise good
To help me rank stuff more efficiently I try to remember a "Cost:Result ratio"
'Costs': CP increase, AP usage, Gold spent, Effort/Time
'Results': How much will it help me in dungeons, How much money will it save and Stat bonuses

Really good guide. My friend seriously needs to read something like this, even though I'm almost 100% sure it won't do anything for her in the first place.

Does a skill reset resset the skill back to novice?

You didnt rank windmill? That skill is really useful in dungeons

Skill reset only de-ranks the skill by one rank.

If you're talking to me about Windmill, it has been rank 1 for almost a year now.

skill resets were better when they came with adv play. I used a ton of em to derank some ranged so i could finish refineing.

A good summery of the guide is "if its not directly contributing to making you run ciar advanced/shadow missions faster, dont bother with it"

For instance, i ranked ranged skills to 1, and refine to 1 and used all that dex to buff my balance with melee weapons so i could use 222 broads and other low balance weapons. I also began working on barrier spikes, because although i dont use ranged in normal rooms, using spikes then magnum spamming makes me essentialy invincable at bosses or hard rooms.

And then i went off and started ranking music skills for fun.
