View Full Version : What motivates you to keep playing?

Is it your friends? Events? Goals?
I'm just wondering, because I've always had trouble staying motivated to play Mabi. I mean, I really enjoy the game, and I enjoy the content. It's a great game. But I also don't really have any reason to stick around (except playing with Hanna every now and then), so maybe that's why. Maybe I need to set some goals for myself.

Love
Well, even on a serious note it is still love. Most of the time i don't even have a clear goal or friends to play together but i still keep playing. Oh i guess, sometimes when i want to relax i log in mabi, enjoy the little things in-game if that can be used as an answer.
For most people, i think it is friends. Goal/dream is pointless if you don't even have someone to share with

The game for all its faults just keeps dragging me back. I dont know but there's something about mabinogi that just...grows on you. :what:

Having a nice Guild, the events and so on also helps. Mabi is also just very unique compared to other games. Which is something I love.
I have never found a game anywhere near the level that Mabi is on. Though sadly it seems like this is going to change soon.

The Play styles and personalization you don't have to be tied down to the same class and no gender lock.
But mostly just for my wife.

Goals and events.
The biggest motivator for me in terms of goals right now is getting out as much as I can for my mules who'll be limited to level 25, the challenge with working such a restriction is quite interesting to me. Then there's also a few other things I have to do/have planned such as getting my main elf to hit current level 25 exploration and G15 after that.
For events, I'm such a sucker for fashionable items like the beam swords from the event going on right now. If something in an event is to my interests, then chances are I'll be there.
Sadly, I got nothing for friends. In the past 5 months, the most contact I've been around with are a couple of aquatints. I'd love to make more in Mabi, but I'm very wary. To keep it short, let's just say most of it regards the hackers roaming about and the people who are "okay" with such things. Yesterday while I was out doing Torchlight Bazaar shopping, I saw a guy at the hammer game joking about hacking it. Such things like that disgust me, even more with the jerkish attitude that the comment was displayed as. There are a few more issues and peeves, but the hackers are the biggest and worst.

I guess for me, a friend and I compete to see who can be the strongest. Plus I have other friends I play with. And meeting new people is always..interesting. Also..
I spent alot of time and money on Mabinogi, I don't really want to ever leave it. If I did I couldn't call myself a man, I couldn't call myself a hero! http://www.laymark.com/l/o/51.gif (http://www.laymark.com)
Plus it's fun. The excitement! The friendship! The love! Even the deceitful hackings of evildoers can be an experiencing adventure at times!

I don't exactly know. All I noticed is that I can never leave mabi no matter how many time I stop playing it. There's something about it that makes me come back even after a 6 month break. But for now I'd say a friend of mine with who I play.
Guild, this event, my ego ;/

The generation quest storylines, my guild, Nao's rack.
People, specifically guilds. Solonogi for me usually just ends up doing maybe one or two SMs every couple days, along with half-hearted commerce, but with friends, especially those who are newer to the game, I'm brought into mainstream SMs and loads of rafting, page-hunting - anything really.
I guess in a way, I'm more passive about my own goals when compared to the goals of others - at least until I get ahold of a new fashionogi related item.
That, and I'm stockpiling AP.
And yes, I too have spent way too much money to quit now. It's been .. four? years since I started the game with a tan, blue-haired human with a grey slim robe, so I have a lot of memories here.
Upcoming content, and continuously chasing after goals. I remember for the past few years of Mabinogi I kept paying for the paid features, but now I spend barely a penny on it, and spend mostly in-game gold. Enjoyment hasn't changed, regardless of all the things that has happened so far.
Mostly friends make me stay as well, since I've been playing with my friends ever since we started out near the same time 4 years ago. Some of those friends are like family to me too.

Chatting away on skype with guildies. Random runs on dungeons we aren't really ready for.... and beating it, of course with it's setbacks (blessings, dura etc.)
and honestly... that is the only thing that keeps me going. o-o; My friends are the reason I want to log in... and once I'm on it's just w/e from there on.

My sister is my reason.
She came back this week...saying
"I really hate this game...yet I'm playing it."
"I know how you feel..."
we're such masochists.

My close friends pretty much keep me from leaving despite the fact I got most of them added on FB/MSN/Skype. Is just so much fun spending time with them ingame. That and the new content G16 gives is something I really look forward to. I already took like 4 long breaks from Mabi so I doubt I'll be able to actuay leave it permanetly x___x

My guild and my friends are the main things that have me keep playing. It's also that I have some goals for it that I want to reach xD That, and having many characters. Sometimes, I get bored of one character and I'll play on a different one ._. I can't play as much now though because of school and work.

Finding ingame and accomplishments to achieve (mostly trying to rank a skill), talking to guildmates and people in my ingame friendlist, and general updates like the current event or new content keep me playing. The main draw for me is character progression though.

Honestly I don't really know what. A lot of my friends are inactive and my friends list is constantly full of red little people icons. Maybe my clothes that I worked hard on?

Definitely the guildmates and friends. My main character is still locked out. I wouldn't have bothered making another if it weren't for the people I'm surrounded by. I haven't really been playing much lately, though. School's basically absorbed me and once I get home, there's homework, then I'm just tired. Plus there are easier ways to procrastinate. >>
