For the nation!

My first guide since moving from Mabiguru. Here goes.

I'm sure this is common knowledge to most weavers, so this is written for the benefit of people who are considering to take up weaving, do not know this and are tired of running around for spider webs.

~Table of Contents~

1. Field White Spider and Explanation of AI
2. Emain or Tir?
3. Requirements
4. How to stick spiders?

1. Field White Spider and it's AI
Only two of these can aggro you. Aggro is indicated by small red (!) over the spider.
It will not attack you. Only the red ones will.
For weaving purposes, most people either stick Tir graveyard spiders to trees/broken walls, or the white spiders at Northwest of Emain Macha to trees.
Monsters in these areas, like many others, will reset if there is no one in the area for a period of time.

Like sheep and other monsters, they can only run within a certain boundary, after which they will walk back to their original locations.

2. Emain or Tir?
As to which is better, it depends. The chances of newbies disturbing you is much lesser at Emain Macha. For convenience, I prefer Tir spiders.

3. Requirements
Firstly, you need someone to be in the area to prevent the spider monsters from resetting.
It can be your alternative account (requires dual-client), or just a friend that you pull over to watch the area while he/she lets their ego go hungry.
If you are an elf, you can use your pet. Make sure to get the pet to rest in the area, and do not go into any buildings while you are weaving.

4. How to stick spiders?

Spider is X, and your obstacle is Z.
A is the location where you want to stick the spiders at.

X (spider) Z (obstacle) A (location)

If you trap them elsewhere, chances are that the spider will be able to walk back to the original location. The obstacle has to be there to prevent it from doing so.

Elf characters are preferred to stick spiders, due to their Hide action.
However, it can also be done on humans and giants with though channel switching. You must make sure someone is in the area while you do this, to prevent them from resetting and your farm being ruined. (Unsure if use of mounts is possible now due to mount deaggro fix, so let's take it as a no until someone confirms this.)

Just walk to the two nearest spiders and wait for the (!) marks to show up. Draw them to the area you have to trap them to, and then run in such a way that the spiders will still be stuck there and not following you. Spiders walk very slowly, so you should have no problems with this.

After you have trapped them, you need to make the spiders forget all about you! Either switch channels and then go back, or for the elves, use that handy Hide action. Now repeat the process for all the other spiders in the area.

If spiders are too far from the trapping location (you will know this if you tried to aggro one, and then it keeping walking back to their original positions after walking to a certain point), kill them and hope the next respawn is close to your trapping location. Repeat if it's not satisfactory.

When you are done, start picking. Remember to use either the heal skill, or just equip a bow/crossbow without arrows. You'll be able to pick cobwebs safely without worrying about accidentally attacking a spider.

And so this is the end of it. Have fun!

P.S. This guide is for Mabination. It should not appear elsewhere without my permission.

New! Video of trapping spiders, thanks to Sora!

This is really helpful! I'll have to give it a try on my elf. :)

Hm, when you use an elf and you're using the pet to keep the farm alive, would you park the pet next to the farm itself or in the area where the spiders originally spawned? I ask because I tried using a pet before to keep my farm alive but when I came back from weaving the farm was all gone except for like 3 spiders, and I didn't go into any buildings or anything. :<

It would be in the area, but close to the farm.
Also, there is something not really confirmed, but when I used the skill of pet to rest, it would magically teleport to me when I went too far. So you might want to try the spoken command to make sure it stays right there.

Man, I need to get onto this. I'm still at r9 Weaving, which is kinda sad at the level I'm playing at.

I have a pretty simple video of showing this, want me to link you? You can add it as an "example" I suppose.

Edit: Don't feel bad Kyou, I'm still rank 9 too, haven't touched that skills in months... a lot of months xD...

Edit2: Heres the Link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS8tauVkGM8)

Mention somewhere to equip a bow without arrows or use healing to keep yourself from mauling your entire web in a swing of your broads or something.

I had given up on these farming ideas cause no one told me that untell recently, spider farms gone in the blink of an eye from a missclick, but with those measures in place you dont have to worry about missclicking, making gathering faster and safer.

Also, interesting fact that 2 of your spiders in it will be out of commession, cause there aggroed on you. Making the number of cobweb producing spiders the total number of spiders in the web- 2.

Also, i notice this on single spiders, but sometimes a spider will just sit there and pump out 5-10 cobwebs in rapid succession, without stopping. I think this happens on the farms too, and im not the only one that noticed it right?

I'll add that to the guide, forgot to mention thanks for tip.

Yes, those spiders are glitched. I see it as a bonus to have them, although not really necessary.

Spider farms--mmmmm...
Just kidding. Hmm, I wonder if I could set up a spider farm to train Windmill or something.

Or not.
Still.
