A US man has been charged after he allegedly almost killed his toddler during a boxing lesson.
Miami-Dade police charged 23-year-old Lee Willie DeJesus of Homestead, Florida, after he told investigators he punched two-year-old Lee Willie about 15 times in the face, head and torso while teaching him how to box, CNN reports.
Lee Willie remains on life support in hospital but is not expected to recover from his injuries, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade state attorney's office said.
His father is expected to be charged with first-degree murder once the boy dies.
Police said DeJesus was watching his son while the boy's mother was working on Monday night.
He allegedly told police he put on boxing gloves and punched the toddler around 15 times in a space of 15 minutes, hitting him so hard he fell off a bed and struck his head on the floor.
Court documents say DeJesus waited up to an hour after the boy became unresponsive and called 911 once the boy's lips became blue.
When police arrived DeJesus told them a babysitter was responsible for the boy's condition before admitting he did it himself, court documents say.
A judge has refused DeJesus bail and he will remain in Miami-Dade County Jail .
