Saani's guide to Ant Hell
(Connous Underground)

Alright, don't shoot me. I know you're probably thinking that this is the stupidest thing to write a guide on, ever. However, I know a lot of people don't know how to dig up info on things themselves, so this will save those types of people the trouble.

--Why would I want to go there?
Ant Hell is one of those things to do when you have nothing else. I mean, c'mon. Who doesn't like a little adventure, and maybe even some hidden treasure? Ant Hell is fun to explore alone or with friends, and you could come out with more that you went in with!

--Well, how do I get there?
First things first, you're gonna need an L-Rod. No, not a Cool Wind, Warm Wind, or Snowfield L-rod. Just a plain old L-Rod. These can be bought from Hagel (the closest to where you'll be searching!), Alexina and Krug for 3,000.

Once you've got your L-Rod, you can start looking. Ant Hell drop pits are located in Connous, southwest of the Elf town Filia. I've prepared a map that will show you almost exactly where Ant Hell drop pits are. Remember: These drop pits are not the only things in Connous. If you happen to come upon something else, look again. It can take a while to find a pit, even knowing where all of them are.
Click here to view the labeled map. (http://i43.tinypic.com/5z06ft.png) Please understand that the image is large, and may take a few moments to load.
You can also view a much smaller version of the map here. (http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/6459/5z06ftsmall.jpg)

Find somewhere to start. I usually start at the point closest to Filia, and work my way down. Instead of going to an exact point, go to a general area where a lot of points are together.

Like with normal exploration, listen for 4 beeps on your L-rod--when you hear them, press X. Like I said before, you may not get it on your first try, and if that's the case keep looking.

You will know you have found a drop pit when you see a cloud of sand spurting up from the ground. You may also get a message saying "I think I might fall if I stay...". If not, step into the cloud to get the message. Stand still for a few seconds, and you will fall into Ant Hell.

--What now?
So, you're stuck in a dark, creepy place underground. What do you do? Explore, of course! Ant Hell is one big maze, full of monsters, hidden passages, and even treasure chests! I've taken the detailed map of Ant Hell from the wiki (http://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/) to use for this guide, which shows where everything in Ant Hell is located. It can be very useful if you're only looking for one thing. Credits go to whoever created it.

I've also uploaded the map without any details, in case you're in for full adventure.

--I wanna get outta here!
Ok, getting out can be complicated if you don't know where you're going. But, it can be easier with a map--you can use the clean map above, or you can use the map I've drawn paths out on below. If you're against using the map, you will eventually get to the exit by going towards the center of the minimap. Oh, you don't feel like going all the way to the center? Well then, you could Continent Warp, Use Waxen Wings or Wings of a Goddess (Goddess wings sometimes drop from monsters), or get killed by a monster and revive in town (I wouldn't recommend this.) If you choose to exit from the actual exit in Ant Hell, you will end up in Eranns Canyon near the Mana tunnel.
Click here to view the map with paths drawn out. (http://i41.tinypic.com/n149qq.jpg) (Please don't laugh at how horrible my lines are--I have shaky hands :c)
Note: These are not the only paths possible.

--What monsters spawn here?
From the wiki (http://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/):

White Spider
Cave Bats
Ant Lions
Young Cave Millipedes
Cave Millipedes
Desert Ghosts
Cave Masked Goblins
Salamander
Ifrit
Beware--Some of these monsters multi aggro.

--What's an Ifrit...?
Ifrit is a field boss that spawns in both Connous and Ant Hell. Basically, it's this big, ugly, fiery thing that spawns every day to every other day.

It is extremely strong. It can hit damage with anywhere from 300-600, and has 150,000 HP!

--Soooo, what was that you said about treasure?
That's right, there's actual treasure in Ant Hell, and all you need to obtain this treasure are keys! Yep, only keys! Too bad getting the keys is the hard part, so I've got some tips.

Start at the center and go out.
Listen, sometimes people will find keys, and get frustrated when they can't find the treasure chest rooms, so they just leave! When I go to Ant Hell, I always go to the center, where the exit is, and go up the stairs WITHOUT EXITING. Once there, I check all the channels to be sure I find all the keys I can. BEWARE: Changing channels, logging out, exiting Ant hell, and Continent Warping will cause you to drop all of the keys in your inventory. I suggest that if you find a key, go to a chest room (which can be found on the detailed map both a few sections up, and below) and obtain your treasure, and then do whatever you need to do (Change channels or leave.)
Look everywhere.
I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes keys spawn at random. Look wherever you can for these random keys--me and a buddy found 16 keys just laying around one time!
Find a bot!
Yes, there are bots in Ant Hell, and their job is to farm keys. Sometimes, their inventories get full, and they don't have room to pick any keys up--There's your chance for some free keys! If you have time, camp by a bot and turn up your volume. Don't minimize your window, but do something else on the web or something while you wait. When you hear a "PING!" sound, that means a key has dropped!
Earn some exp.
If you feel like doing the work for yourself, kill some monsters and get some good exp! Be careful--Salamanders and Ant Lions can be strong to some players. This meathod could take a while, as the drop rate of keys is a mere .01%*!

Click here to view the detailed map. (http://i41.tinypic.com/j5azat.jpg)

--I've got my key(s)! Uh...now what?
Nice question. Too bad I don't have the answer for you!

Nah, just kidding. You can find chest rooms using the same detailed map I've posted twice already, but I'll post it again for your convenience :P.

--So, is there anything else?
Not that I can think of--This guide will be a work in progress, and I will update it as more information is available, or as I think to add something.

*The .01% drop rate has, and probably cannot be not confirmed. This information has been passed around time and time again, so it is used to express how rare the keys are.

Please, please, please tell me if you see any errors, or you disagree with something in this guide. I'm the worst at creating guides, so guidance is appreciated.

Heh...It's a great guide. Still kinda confusing when you're actually in the tunnels though. Much better than winging it however. You really need patience to find keys. Even if there are random ones lying around...I don't really like tunnels anymore after being stuck in the Rano-Physis tunnel for forever. D: That place has alot of bots though. Thanks for your work! Can't imagine how much you had to run around Ant Hell to make this.

I made a smaller copy of that huge map. It really takes a while to load. @_@
Feel free to use it if you want to.

Thanks, Yogurt. I'll add it in separately, since some people still like bigger maps.

Sadly, the maitenance swipes all the keys now, and there aren't any bots around on the server I am on.

How the heck do bots even get down there if they are stupid... They can't even use a l-rod. Here is what a bot is in my mind: A computerized robot that explores games and picks the most popular one. They sell products, not aware of the monster fighting-action. People sometimes lour bears kobolds etc into Dunbarton avoiding any attention from other players who will kill the monsters. Once they have it close to the bot, they simply die and let the monster aggro. Bots are basicly computers. Now I have told you what a bot is. Happy travels from this post-:gloom2::no!::!!::thumb:

I used to be able to pick up all the keys from bots in between when they would log off and their botmaster would come online. However they either got smarter or something else, but I haven't been able to get any keys from them. They don't really even leave any extra keys anymore. I wish there was a way to keel bots and make them drop all their keys. x3
