When an equipment is successfully bought or crafted, it will have 0 Deterioration points. Whenever you repair that equipment to restore the Condition to its max points, it also gains Deterioration points.

Deterioration points affect how much that equipment can withstand its current state before being broken. The more Deterioration points it has, the faster Condition will lower.

Say I am repairing at 69/100 vs 0/100, do you gain the same amount of deterioration points, or do you gain deterioration points based on the amount you repair?

When does deterioration max out for an item (And what happens if it maxes out) and is there something that can remove deterioration?

EDIT: I meant, the more Deterioration points an equipment has, the faster the Condition points go down, which in turn, makes your armor break faster in battle.

I'm not sure about this. I might have to go test it out.

I haven't "maxed out" Deterioration points, and I don't think there's something that can remove Deterioration points. I think there was an in-game description somewhere saying the Deterioration points are there "to encourage getting/replacing new equipments".

Dunno if there's a maximum deterioration. But if it has over 600 it practically breaks on a single hit.
Deterioration is specially important for Fiona, and her shield.

So, what if you don't repair in dungeons and just let it auto-repair in town?
I probably know the answer to that though :/...

When your equipment suffers damage on the battlefield, its Condition decreases. You can fix this by going to the Forge and asking Ferghus to restore your gear. However, as you fix your gear, the overall quality of your gear Deteriorates, making future restorations more difficult and hence, more costly.

[Q] What happens when the Condition of an item gets too low?

When an item is in poor Condition, it will look tarnished and get damaged more easily. It may even become unequippable. You can improve the Max Condition of an item by enhancing it at the Forge. (Remember, RESTORING gear in poor Condition is different from REPAIRING broken gear. Broken gear is automatically repaired once you leave a dungeon or when you use an Armor Repair Kit in a dungeon.)
[Condition] The more you use an item, the lower its Condition. Ferghus can restore the Condition of your items to full at the Forge. [Deterioration] Everytime you fix an item, you increase it's Deterioration amount. Higher Deterioration means you have to pay higher prices to restore your gear.

Taken straight from Vindictus help option in game, seriously, very useful.

eh? You get deterioration points when repairing at Ferghus. Not in dungeon.
