Okay, this is going to be the shortest little guide ever... but I figured why not... After you do Ferghus's expanding the forge quest you get a quest from him where he wants a copper ore and you get a quest at the Strange Traveler called "Wait!"
When you get to the cat he asks for an Iron Ore to let you take a pop quiz and tells you to be ready. When you give the Iron Ore, he asks this:
"How many NPC's are there in Colhen?"
15 - WRONG
16 - WRONG
17 - WRONG
18 - WRONG
Varies - CORRECT
NPC's come and go depending on what part of the story you're on. So, there you have it. Just answer Varies and he'll give you a Copper Ore (and a +4 INT title), which you can then give to Ferghus to complete that quest you just got (which you should because it gives +12 INT +9 STR).
