Thanks, I'll try to avoid those!
Good luck in Toronto! Please don't go into the seedy parts of town and get stabbed D:
For most intents and purposes, you're probably right. An average user would probably be unable to retrieve any meaningful data from that. I wouldn't trust free space wipes absolutely, however (as a technicality, not as a practicality.. unless you're a spy or something). Drives have a built in Secure Erase function you can use if you wanna be cool, but it wipes the whole drive.
Most of that stuff is junk data...I think. I've used a combination of File Shredder using the Guttman algorithm 35 pass at least 5 times, used SDelete even though the console confuses me and some CCleaner. All that the recovery programs basically show now seem to be randomly named junk bits.
Doesn't condition:good mean that it could technically be recovered? In any case whether or not you're doing it right depends on what exactly you wanna do. If you want to do a secure wipe, you'll have to format the whole drive and then run secure erase algorithms on it while it's not in use as a system drive. If you don't need that kind of level of absolute security, a "free space wipe" should be adequate. There's a bunch of tools that'll do it, such as CCleaner.
Derp, making sure nothing can be taken from my hard drive that I've deleted, am I doing it right?
I have 2 exams left before I can go home and finally have some nice home cooking :D Oh how I've missed that, mostly because for the past few times I've made crepes they've sickened me so I don't exactly trust them.
The story's like 1-2 days old! Avro was a pretty cool company. They even got a contract from the US to build a flying saucer ... too bad it sucked. Work's ok. It's a good thing I don't have to show up tomorrow morning, else I'd be dead! How's school? :3
Hmm, I'm pretty sure that story's quite old to be honest. Wonder how we would be if the Avro arrow was never cancelled. Oh well, anyway how's work?
I haven't been following it a whole lot, to be honest. Although there seems to be some movement in regards to the F-35 controversy right now. There's a new report that will likely show that the cost is going to be even higher, and some people are trying to find an alternate plane to buy. That's kind of sad, the F-35 is pretty cool. The US is used to have its defence-related stuff (and many other things, tbh) go way over-budget and it's now screwing us, so perhaps it can't be helped.
