It is quite awesome! In the future it could allow for cool things like online games requesting priority routing to the server through an ISP's network when they detect that the ping time for a given player is too high. This way, players who already get good ping times don't need to be treated with higher priority, thereby saving network resources yet still improving overall lower ping times of the playerbase. This would obviously be good for the players (and therefore the gaming company), and it would also benefit the ISP since they could create a new revenue stream this way by offering it as a service. This in turn is good for companies like Cisco, because it gets to sell more fancy gear to the ISPs, which supports this capability, so the gear ends up paying for itself over time. This is the type of case where innovative technology benefits everyone, and I love that. The only concern is what happens when hax0rz start finding security holes in that... it's something we're still figuring out. xP

Oh yea, Cisco's onePK does support C after all. But availability to the general public seems to be limited since it's a new technology. Here's a technical overview if you're curious: https://developer.cisco.com/site/tec...ical-overview/

Haven't dealt with it yet, myself! It probably won't be hitting mass market for another year or two, but it's a cool thing to know when you're out there looking for a job! Oh and there's a course on Coursera. This one does ask for Python as a pre-req, but Python is pretty easy to learn and I would guess that you don't need to be at an advanced level for the purposes of that course. Either way, it's free... so why not check it out. :3

I see! I guess money can play a role. I was thinking it's more to do with people not wanting to change their way of life, which to me is kind of bizarre. @_o Then again, I've moved from country to country a bunch of times... so perhaps I'm the weird one for not caring about this stuff. xd

That's a good combination for your education. :3 I asked because I've been following technology trends and a big thing coming up is something called Software Defined Networking. Perhaps you've heard of it? Basically, it allows a customer (usually an ISP or a large enterprise) to write their own code and run it on the routers. This way, they can override the usual routing protocol (OSPF, EIGRP, etc.. I'm sure you're familiar with those) to route traffic based exactly on what their needs are. You could even make it talk to other applications running on your networked devices to have the network react as appropriate. You can also build your own features without relying on, say, Cisco to implement them into their router software directly. Cisco devices will support Python, Java, and probably other languages too. So don't ignore your programming skills--if you get into serious networking, you may well need em soon (probably looks good on a resume as well).

As for me, I provide network optimization services. Basically, I help a client make sure that they are doing what needs to be done to minimize the chances of them running into issues and having downtime. ISPs don't like having outages. lol
