the battling mechanic, no, but the general "collect cahracters to level and upgrade" is the same in many games nowadays.

On a sidenote, One Piece Treasure Cruise has a similar mechanic....but I think it's WAY more generous as far as ways to expand your character box and get better characters, in my opinion.

All the way up to class S, though my only notable replacement is Angela as my GK. Too bad she got.nerfed.now, but she's still way better than Kei.
