Actually a golem is way better at attracting attention. A mana pistol can sit around firing all day and almost never seem to capture anything's attention, but when a golem starts hitting away at a boss, the boss will almost instantly turn around and fight back. Attracting attention means you get to do more damage while the boss pretty much stands there.
So all in all they both have their ups and downs. It's not really fair to compare them when they're both good for different reasons and both should be used.

Came to add that most other classes (fiona, lann, karok) do not want a golem because they can't attack through them well and they can't telegraph attacks through a bunch of pillars. Mana pistol slows down the boss, but it should not be used in most raids and circumstances....it's just not needed.

"Cons: Body blocks teammates and yourself (which can make it especially annoying for melee characters either getting trapped or moved away from a boss, making them miss their smashes and et cetera),"
Add, you say?

I want to add a few points to this guide...
It's more about game mechanics and etc.
first:
Stand snap vs running snap:
Stand snap = 15 stam
Running snap = 45 stam
They both activate at about the same time but running snap uses far more stam.
Hop cancel:
Hop after almost everything to cancel animations that evie isn't doing anything.
Other tricks like this and that will help you boost your DPS and etc.

You would be loosing dps by doing standing snaps though.
I'll add something: I've never been able to press spacebar fast enough so that the beginning of blink wasn't a hop at all and was just full on invincibility frames. So always keep in mind that the timing for slip dash and blocking =/= the timing for blink.
Also, there are invincibility frames when you get out of blink and stand there but can't move. I think that was added as a ninja patch many episodes ago, but either way that's there and it saves my life constantly!
