Step 1: Find your Wii's MAC address
Go to Wii Home Screen > Wii Options > Wii Settings > Internet > Console Information
Step 2: Generate the LetterBomb.zip File
On your computer, go to http://please.hackmii.com/ and type in MAC address. Cut the wire and download letterbomb.zip
Step 3: Prepare SD card
Unzip the letterbomb.zip on computer, and then put its contents in SD Card
Step 4: Open the Letterbomb
Look for a new message on your Wii and then open it. Once the process is done, you will have a modded Wii
Step 5: Install Bootmii (back up system) and Homebrew channel
you get to backup your games via usb hard drive
and use NES and SNES emulators
There's more emulators than just the NES and SNES ones also you can add homebrew games, eliminate the region lock, let your Wii play DVD movies.
That's from the top of my head.
But who hasn't modded their Wii in these days?
Hell, I even modded my little sister's wii for the fun of it.
I wanted to torrent Brawl but I don't have a USB hard drive. ):
