Updated Info and Prevention on Hacking Outbreak

This was made to contain all the accurate info in one thread with steps to prevent getting hacked.

What is going on:

Black Tent/Robe Hack resolved as of 1/2/2012

If you're online you have a chance to be summoned into a black tent, and you have a chance to lose your ego, personalized items, parts of your body, etc. Nothing is safe. Like I said above, they should not be able to choose what you lose, saying as the original hack made it random, but specifically personalized items and egos are a target for some unknown reason.

Upon exit of a hacked tent, you will be transported to:
"GM Island"
Dugald (Off the map)
Tara (Off the map)
Those are the only three I've seen people say, although there may be more. It's more likely that hackers can choose where you exit, so expect it to be anywhere.


The result:
After exiting the hacked tent, you lose a body part, in this case your head, when you log off after this, you'll be black-robed. There is no fix for it. Your character's data gets corrupted through the use of packets being sent to the server after you get hacked. The only logical fix to this is for Nexon to do a rollback.

Q: Is this across all servers are just specific to one?
A: All servers have been affected.

Q: Is the housing channel safe since you can't set up a camp there?
A: No the housing channel is not safe.

Q: If I got black-robed, I heard deleting your cache in your Mabinogi folder would fix this issue. Is that true?
A: Deleting your cache will restore your character in the client till you log in next, but you will still be black-robed. Your items will still be gone however.

Q: What skills are good to prevent being hacked?
A: Resting is the absolute safest skill to use since it stays loaded forever. Fishing, and using a campfire/tent are only temporary since they don't last forever.

Q:Is it possible to just rollback those who were affected?
A:No, Nexon either rollback's everyone or nobody.

Q: Has Nexon had any input on the situation since the hacking started?

Hello Players,
Given the recent malicious activity that has been taking place in-game, it is with much disappointment that we announce that we will take the Mabinogi game service offline temporarily while we work to remedy these issues.

The service will go down at 6:45 PM Pacific Standard Time, Saturday, December 31, 2011 / 9:45 PM Eastern Standard Time, Saturday, December 31, 2011.

At this point, we do not have a specific time for the service to re-open.

Please do know that we do not make this decision lightly. In light of all the tickets and forum posts (which we do read) of this malicious activity, we feel that we have no choice but to take the game down in order to prevent any further malicious action.

We are working on this and want to make sure that when the game service is brought back up, that this issue is addressed and fixed and that we can get YOU back to your game service and with ALL the items that you had in place before this malicious activity started to take place.

We sincerely thank all of YOU, our honest players, who simply want a fun game experience, with keeping the Mabinogi Community one of the best around. And we will work to get you back into the game so that all you need to worry about is which quest you want to complete next.

Dear Mabinogians,

As all of you are aware, over the past few days malicious players took advantage of many innocent players within the Mabinogi game service, making the game difficult and frustrating to play, which ultimately led to us having no choice but to take Mabinogi temporarily offline.

We are happy to say that Mabinogi is back online and we understand how important Mabinogi is to ALL of you, as Mabinogi isn't just a game. It's a place to socialize with far away friends; it's a way to explore, be heroic and crush monsters; it's a comfortable space to be creative. And we would like to sincerely apologize for this downtime.

Over these last few days, the team at devCAT worked to identify and fix these issues. The patience and support from YOU, the Community, has been instrumental in helping out, as the information in tickets, posts on the forums, and even direct contact from the Community has helped out.


Given that Mabinogi was down for nearly 40 hours, we will provide each player who logged in during this time with the following, to compensate for the downtime:



1) NX 5,000

2) 2-Day Extension of VIP/Premium/Inventory Plus Service

3) An upcoming 2x EXP event(s) that will help you get to where you should be



In addition, for players who were directly affected by the malicious activity, we will add:



1) An additional NX 5,000, for a total of NX 10,000

2) Restoration of your lost items

As we anticipate that there are more players affected than we've seen tickets for so far, we request that you submit a ticket to Nexon Support (http://support.nexon.net).

In your ticket, please include the following information:
- Your Account Name
- Your Character Name
- Your Character's Server
- Date of malicious activity
- Items missing/removed
- Name of Malicious Character (if available)

As well, in order to help with filtering, please include the keyword 'MUGWORTS' in the Summary field.

Please note that restoration of items will take some time, and we request your patience while we go through each ticket in order to properly restore the correct items to your characters.

Prevention:
To avoid item deletion:
-Do not trade
-Do not drop items
-Don't log in*

To avoid getting blackrobed:
-Always, always, ALWAYS keep a skill loaded.
-Sit down. Rest is a skill that is constantly used.
-Make a camp yourself. Enter it and lock it with a password.
-Don't log in*

**The options with an asterisk (*) next to them are what should be done to completely avoid this. **

NPC Death 1/15/2012

What happens:
NPC's are able to die due to packets being edited through 3rd party programs.

Consequences:
All functions that an NPC usually has is now broken. You can't access them/talk or trade.

Prevention
When this happens don't change channels. If an NPC dies in your channel, leaving that one will actually kill it for you, due to Mabinogi's saving process.


This thread will now be updated on any and all Hacking issues that come up and how to prevent them, if possible.

Yes, nobody is exempt from being blackrobed. As it pertains to character data not the actual robe in the game.

Great job organizing this mess, with all the rumors going on in Nexon forums, Mabinogi world and here, it hard to define what is true and false. But I do agree with everything here. One quick question though: Is playing on an alt account possible or is it dangerous?

An alt account is fine to play on but don't expect to be saved from anything. Nexon.net isn't secured so there are ways to track your IP and get your account info through that.


It's not safe in general to play Nexon games.
