Terraria developer abandons his game.

I want to thank all of you for supporting us and making this game's success possible.
After a lot of internal debate, we have decided that it is time to move on. My wife and I are due to have another boy soon, and I want to spend some time getting to know him. I also want to spend the time recharging and bettering myself as both a programmer and game designer. I have learned a lot from working on Terraria and plan on using what I've learned, building upon it, and moving forward with another, even better project. However, we are still planning at least one more bug fix for Terraria.
For those that haven't already heard, Finn "Tiy" Brice has moved on to form Chucklefish and is heavily at work on an exciting new game called “Starbound”. It's looking to be a lot of fun, so make sure to check it out if you haven't already!
Thanks again for all your support, and I am very much looking forward to providing you with something much better than Terraria in the future!
TL;DR, wife and baby are dragging him down, he can't hire anyone else to work on the game so he's giving up on everything.

Well you'll have to excuse a man for wanting to spend time with his family. I mean what, going off to do other stuff after making a game? How terrible of him. That's obviously abnormal, it's not like the whole gaming industry works like this! We all know that game companies develop one game, and one game only, for all of existence, and no game has ever stopped getting updates.

With a player base as large as Terraria's that grew this much in 1 year, and to have updates that are 6 months appart, you'd expect people to be pissed.

I suggest you read this.

There were way more than 2 updates, and even the pre-1.1 updates added a hell of a lot to the game.

I only see 3 content updates, the rest were rebalancing/nerfing and bug fixes.

I was concerned with your "one year, 6 months between updates" comment, which was incorrect.
It's fine to be disappointed, I am too, but don't make shit up to make the developers look bad.

A real life is much more important than a game. Which, might I add, he technically isn't even obligated to stay faithful to above all else.

What Cynic said. And also come on guys. The game can give you fun for as long as you make it last yourself. I have like 125 hours on terraria so even if he abandons the game I'd say it was some money well spent.
Also just because he won't develop it anymore doesn't mean you can't play it anymore.
