Getting magnum to a decent rank before/during refine isn't a bad idea though. Not much dex gained, but your ability to fight becomes a lot better.

Yeah, I do agree with ranking basic ranged skills alongside Refine. I just don't agree with people who'd rather curb it and focus 100% on other skills instead.
Honestly, besides the potential costs, Refine is a fairly easy life skill to rank. If people feel too lazy to rank even that then I seriously wonder how they're going to handle the more tedious life skills later on.

My guides are on the idea that the first thing a player should do is to master his offensive skills (regardless of how weak the damages may be) and then spend AP/time to enhance the damage of those fundamental skills!

Elven es? Drops in conflict adv, hardmode, and elite. Pretty rare drop and only since g14 I think.
