the current finish system sounds better than the one they're implementing if contribution is based on damage.
at least everyone is able compete with the finish system unless you consider pets/mods/idk.
Arc Lich is an extreme example, since it is immune to most attacks. For other giant field bosses, it's about how familiar you are with it when competing for finish; if you need a finish for transformation but aren't capable of competing, ask those that are.
To accommodate those that are contributing in damage, contribution system will grant greater rewards to those on bosses that apply while diminishing its rewards for finishers.
It doesn't take reforges to kill Field Bosses quickly, not to mention that if somebody is using Fighter they won't get the finish anyways. Fighter is possibly the worst skillset to use besides Puppet if you're trying for finish (bar the joke skillsets Magic and Alchemy).

The way I understood it, contribution is awarded to skills/actions used, not actual effectiveness or helpfulness. This lets all the casuals and low levels run up naked and walk away with their rewards without actually being helpful in any meaningful way. Appeasing the masses seems to be the priority nowadays, not that the current finish system is good at all either.

Neither system has an actual focus on doing damage, though that also has the snowball effect of only helping the strongest players. In the end, Field Bosses are just the stupidest, most unbalanced mobs ever.
