Today I was working with my Barron AP review book and got extremely tired, I was going to take a short break (resting my head on my book) but I ended up sleeping two hours at my desk.
I awoke to find my friend had been spamming me with messages on Gtalk.
We chatted a few minutes about our sleeping habits so I've decided to ask you guys a few things.
This is just for fun, it's nice to know about other people's sleep patterns to compare to your own.
Just respond to anything that you can relate to.
NAPS
1) Do you regularly take a nap in order to balance your sleep schedule or do you randomly take them when tired?
2) How long are your naps?
3) How do you feel/act after your nap?
4) I've read 30 mins is the ideal nap time since it is long enough to make you energized but does not go into deep sleep.
Is this true for you guys?
Sleep (Overnight)
5) How many hours of undisturbed sleep do you get every night (weekday/weekends).
6) How much is enough for you to function without randomly falling asleep or being too drowsy?
7) Do any of you consistently wake up refreshed and not tired/drowsy at all? If so, how long did you sleep?
8) How much does a nap affect your sleep? Do you find it difficult to sleep with/without napping first?
9) Do you find it hard to sleep? Did you get too much sleep or is there another cause?
10) Can you sleep with light/sound in your environment? If so to what degree of light/sound can you tolerate?
11) Do any of you guys snore?
12) Do you find it easier to sleep on a full stomach (or empty)?
13) Have you ever been aware of your surroundings while sleeping?
And now, describe your most optimal sleeping environment!
Mine would be-
Soft cover over a rigid bed.
A warm down blanket, the ones with a huge volume but are extremely light.
A cool place that is enough to make the blanket feel extra comfortable but not so cold as to freeze your face.
A soft, thin pillow.
Absolute silence, no light at all.
So, have fun (?) answering some of these questions.
I look forward to seeing your responses

NAPS
1) Do you regularly take a nap in order to balance your sleep schedule or do you randomly take them when tired?
I don't usually choose to nap. They're usually when I tell myself that I'll just lay down for a sec, and then end up sleeping for about five hours.
2) How long are your naps?
I usually don't wake up for a good 4~6 hours.. my parents don't see the need in waking me.
3) How do you feel/act after your nap?
I feel like going back to sleep. Usually, my naps are a little after I get home from school (4:30) and eat dinner (5:00). I sleep until around 9ish~ and .. do homework or whatever .. and go back to sleep. This is only occasional though.
4) I've read 30 mins is the ideal nap time since it is long enough to make you energized but does not go into deep sleep.
Is this true for you guys?
Wut? :what:
Sleep (Overnight)
5) How many hours of undisturbed sleep do you get every night (weekday/weekends).
It really depends on what I'm thinking about. I do most of my thinking about .. everything .. before I go to sleep. Sometimes I can lay down at 1 and not fall asleep until 3. On average.. 5 hours on weekdays.. and around 9~10 on weekends. Less on Saturdays because I have classes in the morning.
:stress:
6) How much is enough for you to function without randomly falling asleep or being too drowsy?
Function? I can function with less than five hours, I just feel like crap. :thumb:
7) Do any of you consistently wake up refreshed and not tired/drowsy at all? If so, how long did you sleep?
It's not just when I wake up, I'm constantly tired. Something about sitting at a computer all day when I'm at home. Hmmmm..
8) How much does a nap affect your sleep? Do you find it difficult to sleep with/without napping first?
I find it harder to sleep after napping first. I tend to dream more if I sleep after I nap; light sleep, I guess. But then I find it extremely hard to get up in the morning because I can't comprehend what the annoying alarm sound is. My alarm would be going on for 5 minutes while I'm trying to figure out what it is. Usually I'm late for the bus when this happens.
9) Do you find it hard to sleep? Did you get too much sleep or is there another cause?
Too much thinking before I sleep, takes foreverr.. My dad won't buy my anymore sleeping pills because he said he's bad along with allergy pills or whatever.. Makes sleeping tricky.
10) Can you sleep with light/sound in your environment? If so to what degree of light/sound can you tolerate?
I can sleep with the TV on.. in fact, I sleep best when I'm not supposed to, and the TV is on. I used to have to have the light on to sleep, but now I like it near pitch-black. I usually stick my iPod into my dock and listen to music if I feel like it. Quietly, though.
11) Do any of you guys snore?
Lol, no. But I gnash my teeth together, according to my parents. They say it sounds spooky at night.
12) Do you find it easier to sleep on a full stomach (or empty)?
It really doesn't matter as long as I'm not uncomfortably hungry. I also can't sleep at all when I'm thirsty. I keep a water bottle beside my bed at all times.
13) Have you ever been aware of your surroundings while sleeping?
..No :fail:
And now, describe your most optimal sleeping environment!
Moderately soft sponge-material mattress [Sleep country, Canada..] <- has anyone else heard that catch tune~?
Cool covers. As in temperature.
I usually sleep with my head off the pillow, I don't know why. Since I have a double sized bed, two pillows puts my head right in between them, which is annoying, so I bought this huge pillow that stretches all the way across my bed. But I never use it; I just curl up in the middle of the mattress.
..Speaking of sleeping, shouldn't you be, mister East Coast?

Randomly when tired, which isn't very often
2) How long are your naps?
Usually half an hour or so
3) How do you feel/act after your nap?
I feel completely energized and ready to roll
4) I've read 30 mins is the ideal nap time since it is long enough to make you energized but does not go into deep sleep.
Is this true for you guys?
I swear I didn't read this question ahead of time. Yes, this is completely true for me.
Sleep (Overnight)
5) How many hours of undisturbed sleep do you get every night (weekday/weekends).
I'd say on average 8 hours a night, every night
6) How much is enough for you to function without randomly falling asleep or being too drowsy?
As much as I get, 8 hours a night
7) Do any of you consistently wake up refreshed and not tired/drowsy at all? If so, how long did you sleep?
Well, I consistently wake up refreshed when I fall asleep listening to ambient sounds. I prefer falling asleep watching tv though, so I listen to ambient sounds before big days like test days, etc. I'm pretty much never tired though.
8) How much does a nap affect your sleep? Do you find it difficult to sleep with/without napping first?
When I take a nap it's typically harder to fall asleep that night.
9) Do you find it hard to sleep? Did you get too much sleep or is there another cause?
Not particularly. It's just hard to sleep in the summer sometimes because it's too hot.
10) Can you sleep with light/sound in your environment? If so to what degree of light/sound can you tolerate?
I can to a moderate degree but it's much easier to fall asleep in the dark.
11) Do any of you guys snore?
I'm 99% sure I don't...
12) Do you find it easier to sleep on a full stomach (or empty)?
Full definitely.
13) Have you ever been aware of your surroundings while sleeping?
Only during naps; when I take naps and am suddenly awoken I can remember most of the things that went on during the time I was asleep, despite being asleep.
My optimal sleeping environment would be an uber comfy bed with an uber comfy blanket in a freezing room, with a nice tv ;D

NAPS
1) Do you regularly take a nap in order to balance your sleep schedule or do you randomly take them when tired?
I randomly take them when I'm tired.
2) How long are your naps?
Very long, actually. 2 or 3 hours sometimes.
3) How do you feel/act after your nap?
After a 2 hour nap, I sometimes feel more than what I was originally. However, I still feel a little more relaxed.
4) I've read 30 mins is the ideal nap time since it is long enough to make you energized but does not go into deep sleep.
Is this true for you guys?
Yes, this is very true. When I have very short naps (an hour) and wake up, I feel energized and ready to take on the rest of the day.
Sleep (Overnight)
5) How many hours of undisturbed sleep do you get every night (weekday/weekends).
6-7 hours on a good day. 4-5 hours on a day full of homework.
6) How much is enough for you to function without randomly falling asleep or being too drowsy?
6 to 7 hours minimum.
7) Do any of you consistently wake up refreshed and not tired/drowsy at all? If so, how long did you sleep?
8 to 9 hours. When I do this, I honestly feel great.
8) How much does a nap affect your sleep? Do you find it difficult to sleep with/without napping first?
Since I nap in the evening, I wake up late nights, so I end up changing my normal sleep patterns by a lot. I tend to be awake more during the night than the day.
9) Do you find it hard to sleep? Did you get too much sleep or is there another cause?
Hard to sleep? Nah. Unless I'm worried, excited or have a lot of things on my mind, I tend to fall asleep pretty quickly.
10) Can you sleep with light/sound in your environment? If so to what degree of light/sound can you tolerate?
I can sleep with all lights on, however I cannot have the TV on. Really makes it hard for to sleep.
11) Do any of you guys snore?
And I drool too. :(
12) Do you find it easier to sleep on a full stomach (or empty)?
Full stomach. You get sleepier when you have a good meal. Or at least for me.
13) Have you ever been aware of your surroundings while sleeping?
Not usually. I'm a horribly deep sleeper. My brother has drawn on my face while I've been sleeping. Jigglypuff, much.
And now, describe your most optimal sleeping environment!
On a hot day, like today, my windows would be completely open.
My fan would be turned on to the highest setting.
I'm barely dressed, probably in my underwear.
I'm laying on my back resting with my hands behind me, under my pillow.
However, just as I start feeling REAAAALLY tired, I turn over, lay on my chest and I hug my pillow and fall asleep.
I love to sleep. :)

1) Do you regularly take a nap in order to balance your sleep schedule or do you randomly take them when tired?
I just take them when I'm tired. I listen to my body when it comes to sleep.
2) How long are your naps?
Usually around 30 mins.
3) How do you feel/act after your nap?
Refreshed! Groggy... sometimes.
4) I've read 30 mins is the ideal nap time since it is long enough to make you energized but does not go into deep sleep.
Is this true for you guys?
Definitely. I used to nap for longer but then I end up oversleeping or feeling really groggy afterward. I settled into 30 mins after realizing I felt best with this time.
Sleep (Overnight)
5) How many hours of undisturbed sleep do you get every night (weekday/weekends).
6-7.
6) How much is enough for you to function without randomly falling asleep or being too drowsy?
4 or 5.
7) Do any of you consistently wake up refreshed and not tired/drowsy at all? If so, how long did you sleep?
I usually feel refreshed after a good 7 hours. Over 9 or less than 5 and I start to feel icky in the morning.
8) How much does a nap affect your sleep? Do you find it difficult to sleep with/without napping first?
It doesn't really. Naps used to mess up my sleep schedule big time when I was napping for an hour, but 30 mins in the middle of the day doesn't mess me up.
9) Do you find it hard to sleep? Did you get too much sleep or is there another cause?
I do have a lot of trouble falling asleep, but I'm not entirely sure why.
10) Can you sleep with light/sound in your environment? If so to what degree of light/sound can you tolerate?
I need some kind of light. I suffer from sleep paralysis on and off (though it's improved massively in the past two years) and found that having a light source in the morning helps give me something to focus on to kind of... brush off the terror. I usually leave my closet light on so I get that without it being bright or overpowering.
11) Do any of you guys snore?
Nope! But I do talk in my sleep sometimes. Or yell, even. People have had conversations with me in my sleep before! x)
12) Do you find it easier to sleep on a full stomach (or empty)?
Much much easier to sleep after a good meal. Yum.
13) Have you ever been aware of your surroundings while sleeping?
Yes. Like I said above, I suffer from sleep paralysis, so I've had moments where I wake up mentally but my body hasn't caught up with me - this means I can view my surroundings but I can't move my head, I can't talk, I can't move any part of my body at all. It's also accompanied by some pretty intense hallucinations and feelings of terror, yeah, not fun.
And now, describe your most optimal sleeping environment!
A very soft, big bed.
Cool room, not cold but not hot.
A slight breeze - from a fan or window.
Quiet, dark.
Big, soft, fluffy pillows!
Soft blankets made of cotton or something similar - soft and gentle but not bad heat wise.
Someone to share it with :3

I do not nap.
Sleep (Overnight)
5) How many hours of undisturbed sleep do you get every night (weekday/weekends).
about 5 to 8 hours per night, including weekends. I sleep when I'm tired rather than any specific time, even as early as 8 pm, and as late as 1 - 2 am. Weekdays I wake up for 6 am. Weekends I can't seem to sleep past 9 am regardless of when I went to bed.
6) How much is enough for you to function without randomly falling asleep or being too drowsy?
^ the above
7) Do any of you consistently wake up refreshed and not tired/drowsy at all? If so, how long did you sleep?
Always sleepy/lazy feeling when waking up, if I woke up by alarm clock. When I wake up on my own, so long as it isn't dark or rainy/gloomy outside I feel fine.
8) How much does a nap affect your sleep? Do you find it difficult to sleep with/without napping first?
Do not nap.
9) Do you find it hard to sleep? Did you get too much sleep or is there another cause?
I don't like sleeping until i've actually slept... then I don't like waking up. So it is hard for me to sleep by a schedule, I have to go when I'm really sleepy or else I'll be up all night.
10) Can you sleep with light/sound in your environment? If so to what degree of light/sound can you tolerate?
Never paid attention to that. Apparently I slept through a false-alarm hotel fire alarm though. For some reason sound doesn't bother me, but presence of people or animals wakes me up (if they come in after i slept, or if they leave if i fell asleep with them there).
11) Do any of you guys snore?
Apparently my cat snores louder than me.
12) Do you find it easier to sleep on a full stomach (or empty)?
Never noticed a difference.
13) Have you ever been aware of your surroundings while sleeping?
always, if something changes I wake up (people coming home or leaving, or cats entering room).

8) How much does a nap affect your sleep? Do you find it difficult to sleep with/without napping first?
Nap -> Sleep if i'm not woken. I love sleeping, I just wish it didn't take up time :p That'd be too awesome
9) Do you find it hard to sleep? Did you get too much sleep or is there another cause?
Hard to sleep... when it's too warm. So uncomfy. Also if it's too cold. But it usually gets too warm down here in Texas xD
10) Can you sleep with light/sound in your environment? If so to what degree of light/sound can you tolerate?
No. NO LIGHT AT ALL OR I CANNOT SLEEP! I have to wear an eye mask, or I cannot fall asleep. My eyelids are so thin and my eyes are so sensitive :<
Sound... none. Except for the air conditioning. Gosh, I love the sound and feel of the air blowing from out mini-industrial fan xD
11) Do any of you guys snore?
I don't :o My dad uses a C-PAP machine to stop his snoring causes indirectly by his... something, can't remember the name.
12) Do you find it easier to sleep on a full stomach (or empty)?
never when i'm hungry :< being full makes it so comfy to sleep
13) Have you ever been aware of your surroundings while sleeping?
never xD i am OUT of it when i sleep
And now, describe your most optimal sleeping environment!
Comfy bed. Really comfy. Cold sheets. One big comforter and another smaller fleece.
Cold fan air blowing over me. Completely dark. Soundless except the air. Pillows EVERYWHERE!
Also Bun-bun so i dun get scared
Also, no pressing matters. No waking time. No windows. No light under the door. Carpet floor. (for walking on after waking. i HATE cold tile after i wake.) House shoes right next to bed. Also, lightly scented with Febreeze :3 Fresh spring or apple cinnamon. Ceiling fan high above the bed.
Edit: OMG MUST BE RAINING! I LOVE THE SOUND OF RAIN OMFG! Just so long as the power stays on. :p And the low rumble of thunder <3<3<3<3<3 And looking out at the cloudy skies... As long as I stay inside, it's the most relaxing thing i can think of:glare:
Man I got relaxed typing that all out...
:tea:
I want to sleep.
Also, I like having good dreams, peaceful. But it bothers me when I can't recall them xD
Okay, I think that's all :P
