It costs about five million gold to reach 21 social. Strength is easy to obtain in comparison. FYI, I own a spirit crossbow as well.
The best spirit ranged weapons in my opinion are as follows,
Weapon__________Damage___Avg Damage___Critical___Speed__ADACT
Leather Long Bow__69-112_____103____________ 44%______Slow____147
Crossbow__________58-101______92____________ 54%______Normal__146
Ring Bow__________ 72-129_____117____________ 34%______Normal__151
Wing Bow__________55-109______98____________ 50%______Fast____ 148
The crossbow and the wing bow have unconfirmed stats at all/40. It's highly likely that the crossbow outclasses the leather long bow, statistically.
- Average Damage and Critical Total is the most important aspect of single-element ranged effectiveness. Keep in mind, critical is more difficult to obtain than ranged damage when enchanting your equipment. It'll be easier for a player to obtain 130 critical with a Crossbow than a Ring Bow. The rest of your enchants can then focus on maximum damage, potentially resulting in higher offensive stats.
- Another note, the wing bow and ring bow are two-hit ranged weapons. This means that they knock back in two hits and have greater stun than their three-hit counterparts.
- Speed is inversely proportional to stun duration. Faster weapons have greater potential DPS due to faster refire at the cost of stun.
- Range is directly proportional to aim speed.
- Keep in mind that spirit weapons are meant to be used, not to look pretty while they sit in your inventory. If you lack the resources to regularly use a wing bow or a ring bow, you probably shouldn't own one.
- The primary reason to ego a crossbow is because it improves on the upgraded crossbow's major flaws while carrying its attributes. The cost of a potential campfire bonus hurts but many players appreciate the increased (human-only) mobility.
...
Yeah. :awesome:

Id say go for the bow, because Japanese Twohanders alone, are not very strong compared to the latter Twohanded Sword, Masamune and DSKS.
Aswell as LLB's are great ego's, but their dura runs out fast. Since your going for Red and Black LLB, you might want to use pots unless you dont care if it gets dura lowered by failing.
From experience, your ego weapon should be based on your strongest and favorite playing style.
A spirit weapon is kinda like Eiry, in it might be emotional to lose somthing so hard to take care of, or has a special meaning. If you have a second thought, even once, Dont do it.
The reason why i destroyed my bow, was becasue at the time, i was one of the few with Red and White LLB Ego's, after a month, a huge increase in them, and i didn't feel as special. I destroyed it in order to make my current Ego, which is a Masamune.
I just like to think of spirit weapons as; not just a weapon, but a part of your soul and your friend. Even if their digital data. They help you out in binds, restore your HP and such in certian status's, and even have a powerful attack, Incarnation.
Id say have a Black and Red LLB Proffed, and try out ranged first, before doing it. Just so you will feel less guilty destroying your good ego for a more fragile supportive weapon.
Try out ranged, and be sure you know how to fight, before making the Ego. Dont make an ego, just for show, and not use it.

Fixed.
Although you're right about a lot of things. Spirit Weapon's are only as useful as you make them and they can definitely turn the tide of battle. Regarding Spirit Weapon Awakening, the bow and wand variant are helpful when fighting enemies with lower defenses.
