What is anime ( and also manga)?

Really what is anime, and why does it carries two definitions in its name? The same goes for manga.
Anime: Shorten word for animation, which puts as any Cartoon. (Original)
Anime: Any cartoon that was made in Japan, made for the original dubbing to be Japanese, creator was Japanese, and like several other definitions that fits in with being Japanese. That being said, if it isn't done by the Japanese, it nothing more than an interpretation.

Manga works the same way:
Manga: Comic
Manga: Japanese Comic

I got pull in when I was reading a post about The Boondocks being anime or not,when used in the State version (I only go with what I know, as I don't want to generalize the entire Western cultural, as using the same context)

Yet in Japan this is anime.

The same when one looks at Manga. Here these are not really considered manga.

While in Japan these are considered Manga.

If we where to follow the rules of the State style(again I really do not know how the rest of the western cultural anime/ manga fans calls it) would this be considered anime?

This is almost the same, as saying one art style not being the same, because it origin wasn't from the original region. Example being Cubism, it not Cubism, it it wasn't made in Spain.

The most bizarre thing though is that, every other comic/ cartoon outside of being made in Japan, is just considered that,nothing more than a comic/ cartoon. Yes I do know that manhwa and manhua, are used, but its' case is unique considering it isn't held as high as Manga, thus it can end up with being call Korean comic and Chinese/ Taiwan comic. Just as any other country was to comic/ cartoons be created.

So I ask you people of Mabination, what the hell is Anime a[SIZE="3"]long with manga[/SIZE]?:what:

I thought the same thing also, but looking at the forums of anime sites, it is more of a divide, people can be easily piss if one where to mention Boondocks in the anime genre. Most of the fans in there just says that if any cartoon is made in japan it is anime, the odd part being that the Boondocks animation was made in Korea, but parts of the second season was supposedly made by Madhouse. It was a such a bizarre moment that I thought about making this thread or not, as this type of debate is flame bait.

I think manga and comic/graphic novel are just two names given to the same thing, but in different countries.

Hence, they are equal.

However, we give the name manga to whatever comes from Japan. Comic to whatever isn't.

In Japan, all cartoons and comics are considered anime and manga.
In western countries, western cartoons are considered cartoons, and eastern cartoons specifically from Japan is considered anime.

In the west, at best, The Boondocks would be considered an American Anime, but that's a different thing all together. So, for the sake of this answer, it's considered a cartoon with japanese-like animations and character designs. However, in Japan, it will be considered an anime, since that's their word for cartoons.

Though, it is likely that Japan does seperate Western Cartoons from Anime. I'd imagine that when it's simply called anime, the majority will assume Japanese anime. Only when it's an anime not from Japan, they may be called foreign or western anime.

To be honest, in the West, it's very likely that manga and anime mostly refer to the type of art style that Japan is well known for on the internet. Thus, if it's anime or manga-like, it'll be considered an anime or manga, regardless o whethere it comes from Japan or not. Hence, the "Is The Boondocks and anime or cartoon" question.

I'd consider Boondocks an anime, I really great one :D.
