How do I get my laptop to connect to the internet with a wired modem?

I've tried plugging the modem and the laptop together via a network cable but just doing that doesn't work. Is there a solution?

Yep. Tried that. It notices the connection but it's limited connectivity and I can't access the internet.

Odd. Reset your internet and try. Also make sure you're plugging it into the right port on both the modem and the laptop.

I got it to work. I didn't set my connection to pick up servers automatically or something. Thanks anyways.
