How much does 5% protection offer in terms of damages on critical or whatever it helps to prevent?
I know I should do G3 and get over with it but I don't think the time is right, I want a good trade-off before I get rid of it.

Well, Prot doesn't make a difference unless you devote you armor completely to it. Even then, prot stacking is mostly for PvP imo, since you won't get hit with crits at all. Otherwise, gloves are better used for crit/damage instead of 5 protection, since it doesn't really matter if a guy hits 300 or 285 :V

I don't know by how much but, 5 protection on my elf means a load of difference as far as wound rate goes.

1 Protection will have these bonuses
1) -2% crit on Monster's attacks
2) -2% Wound rate of monsters (not confirmed, sorry)
3) Provided x is the amount of total protection, (100-x)% of damage. Basically, 1 protection will make all damage fall to 99% of its original value. 40 Protection will have 60%, and etc. Just know that the damage decrease from protection comes AFTER defense, so with 20 defense and 10 protection, a 200 damage would go to 180 by defense, and 172 by protection for a total damage decrease of 28 damage decrease.

It is better to think of protection as critical rate and wound reduction rather than the small amount of % damage reduction.
You should ask yourself if critical rate/wound reduction is more important than critical/damage increase.

Unless you have over 50% Protection.

And it's not even really 5% protection. It's 3-4%, because that which you would replace them with (since you're interested in armor) would be a good set of gauntlets offering 1-2% protection (depending on the quality of smith). Toss on Burgundy Bear and you're looking at possible a 3 defense, 3 protection gauntlet (plus whatever suffix you put on). Arguably better than a 0 defense, 5 protection bracelet thing (though the lack of repair is probably appealing).
Unless of course you're going for the even better option, replacing it with a wooden needle/something wood plate cannon.

I have wooden needle, but I'm not a very big fan of damage and I hate fail repairs unless I have two of the same type of items or if it were easily replaceable.
To me, wooden needle was pretty challenging to get and I'm not too keen on using it as the primary setup.
The 3 defense, 3 protection gauntlet + suffix add-on seems like a good trade-off, but what type of blacksmithed gauntlets should I be looking out for?

No alternatives?
I don't mind using Valencia, however I don't like to go to Fleta for repairs.

They're the only gloves that can get 2/2 iirc.

Ok that's just too bad.
And I need wind blast R5, which is a skill I'm not a fan of.

Alternatively you can make Arish ashuvain gauntlets with 1/2 if it's protection you're really after, and the mats and production for them are far easier than valencia gauntlets, so you can really spam them for a good result.
I also think they look better...and they have more durability.

Valencia gauntlets are only repaired at fleta? I thought it was just the main armor.
