Daggers work well for beginners, since they cost very little to repair. Most things should die in a single combo, since Daggers get a total of 6 hits. They do have low durability though, so you'll either need to find a pair with higher stats (dropped from Rat Men or smithed) or carry a bunch with you wherever you go.
If you don't like the speed, durability, or lower damage of Daggers, find some Broadswords. They're also pretty cheap while boasting more damage and better upgrades.

Ultimate: The sword of Elsinore + Spirit Muramasa/Bastard sword
Excellent: Spirit Gladius/Bastard sword/Muramasa + Goddess Spike War Sword
Great: Spirit Gladius/251 Battle Sword/222 Broad Sword + 251 Battle Sword/222 Broad Sword
Good: Broad Sword/Gladius x2
Beginner: Fluted Short Sword/Broad Sword/Dagger
The beholder sword/dagger should be used while final hit is active.

wooden blades are also surprisingly strong, have loads of durability, and very cheap repairs. with some effort spent to upgrade them, they can boast 40 max damage, still have a little bit of crit, and maintain full durability (unlike metal weapons which typically lose max durability for their best upgrades). And even though they have the attack animation of a blunt weapon, they still count as swords and human can dual wield them.

for weak swords, such as broad swords and daggers, you dont need a strong build, you can acctually give them cheap upgrades to make them stronger, there are weapons with Balance upgrades. My favorite weapons to use were Short swords, their upgrades are rather cheap, and their dura isnt that bad either.

Try some Wooden Blades. They're the cheapest dual-wielding weapons to repair, but stand out surprisingly good and durable. Upgrades are cheap, but make a Wooden Blade stronger than base Gladius.
If you need something with "easy" stats, a Dagger will do. If you need something meaty, either a Battle/Fluted Short Sword or Broadsword would help.

For some reason, I laughed at this one.
Nonetheless, I think you should bless your weapons; it'll decrease the durability loss.
Also, have you tried Rabbie? it's a simple dungeon if you know the monster AI, and it'll get you enough cash to get you through the game at beginner stages
