Higher critical and damage. Humans usually don't use maces much because the better alternatives are one-handed swords or dual wielding normal swords.

Because it is one handed, and that it has a high max damage. Not to mention the balance is pretty good.

I looked at the blunt weapons upgrades and comparison for both and maces still seem to be better overall with a good average of balance, critical, and max damage. Warhammers do have a damage upgrade that are equal or higher to mace upgrade max damage, but the balances are all pretty low and low balance =/= nono, even with 200+ dex.

Well, since elves supposed to have tons of dex for their range attacks, warhammer is supposed to be the better option for elves. However not every elf have tons of dex.

High Max Damage and Decent Critical. I prefer using a Warhammer though for higher Max Damage compensated by high dex.

Mace is a Balance-easy, high dmg and/or high crit melee weapon for Elves.

Warhammer has higher dmg and crit, but with 0% Balance.

Warhammers require a lot more balance to use well, high level elves who branched into combat mastery used max-dmg warhammers.
Maces have pretty high max and good balance so they can be used well by elves without high dex or the balance from Combat Mastery.
The only problem is that maces don't have the highest max and have very low critical.

238 Goddess' Caliburn Mace: 19-102 (11%)
180 Goddess' Caliburn Warhammer: 16-113 (25%)
208 Beserk Spike Hatchet: 0-105 (34%)

Substitute Goddess/Caliburn for shadow hunter, lion hunter, cold, spike, etc.

The hatchet is an excellent substitute for the Warhammer, if you can obtain the beserk enchant.

Blunt+shield for human is just as strong as it is for elf, or better (since humans have better str skills). People use sword+shield as human so they don't have to carry around yet another melee weapon and typically want swords so they can keep the option to duel wield them. Many pvp-focused humans carry a blunt for use with shield.

Remember, elves use blunts because they -can't- duel wield anything, and if you're only going to hold 1 one-handed weapon, it may as well be the strongest hitting one you can.
