For the first step clear out all the enemies before the Gnoll Chieftain gets up.
Then when hes done meditating more Gnolls will spawn. Don't kill them, let the Chieftain handle it. Just get close enough to make him attack but far enough to easily dodge it. Hope its a spin because those should really help clear out the mobs.
Once the mob is gone wait for the Chieftain to attack, or spear him 2 times to stun him.
If hes stunned you have about a 6 second opening to do whatever you want.
If you're not using spears wait for him to attack and rush behind him and attack. Don't do a smash at the end because that poses a risk of getting hit, but if you want to then its at your own risk.
If he does his smash attack Slip Dash forward. (Nimble Dash really helps right about now).
Not to the side though because he can change the direction of his attack at any time he pleases, and he pleases. If he spins then its the same. Except he can't change directions, and he goes forward slightly. So if you don't have Nimble Dash use Slip Dash to your side. Once you've dodged it you have about 3 seconds to hit him. You can do a Smash at this time because he most likely won't rapid smash or spin. You have a better chance of survival based on your armor of course. And if you die.. Then you got PWNT. :punch:
Tip: After his smash or spin have a jar on hand, because after his attack you can EASILY walk up and use a smash attack on his helmet. Attacking with your weapon won't knock it off, so jars are perfect considering they're in large numbers, they don't waste stamina, and they wont break easily. That's the best way to get his Break-Off item. :XD:
Don't be scared. :scare:

Only about 2 hits of his mighty hammer should incapacitate you, so watch out. And if you die.. Then you got PWNT. :punch:
1. Level up
2. Get better armor
Watch his foot.
If you're close, he kicks.
If he doesn't raise it, he smashes
If he does, he spins.

I found soloing him a little lengthy but it's so easy once you have the technique down. Again do what the first post said about letting him kill the minions. Then just get him to break stuff (the pillars) and use them and throw it at him. I found that the size of the object does make a difference...larger stones will get him down and you can just throw more rocks at him. Even with him charging his attack if you throw it and it's large enough/does enough damage, he'll get stunned or whatever (scoring a down) and you can just wail on him. It's rather easy. Just watch out for his spin attack and kicks. If you know he's going to kick DON'T run to HIS left side cause there seems to be an invisible wall there and he will kick you.
I find him easier to solo than with a group.

I found soloing him pretty easy albeit lengthy. Use your 2+1 Smash to hit him then run away. With a full stamina bar, a 3+1 smash is possible if you don't run all the way to him before beginning the combo. You'll have to slip dash away immediately after, however.
With the spin attack, it's possible to slip dash through it with invincibility frames so that you're already close while he recovers and can start a 3+1 with time to spare. However, your stamina bar must be full before attempting this, otherwise you'll be stranded next to him without stamina and, if you were positioned correctly, are going to get kicked shortly.
But seriously, the easiest run ever is a 4 man where everyone has and knows how to use the chain hook. (hint: If they need to aim it, they suck. Quick-hitting f while chieftain charges you works every time.)

Honestly, Chain Hooks in such an early part of the game seems sorta useless since this basically puts one player out of commission for the duration of the chain hook. It would be more effective if everyone just speared him down, if you're really looking for a quick way to beat him up, since this allows all 4 players to attack at once.
And on another note, some people may experience massive lag when partying with others, or just want to challenge themselves and fight him solo, which is why there are guides about soloing him. (As well as that warrior's challenge oath of honor for those people who wish to max out BP and whatnot)

To me it seems like Chain Hook is pretty much more of an early game weapon than spears. I haven't used them since the Revenge quest to be honest, and that was a few weeks ago.
Soloing is definitely an option but slow and hardly ideal. I only ever did it to max out BP for quests since the drain on tokens is irritating and I'd rather spend those on grinding AP.

What tokens? Decisive battle doesn't use tokens.

I was referring to later battles. If you're at a low enough level to not worry about spending tokens, then good for you.
But personally, I don't like spending Tokens soloing Ainle because it doesn't net me as much AP per unit of time.

This is a guide to soloing Decisive Battle.
Token use should not be a reason not to solo this battle.
Also, you get more exp when you solo. (Like lots more)

But Tokens are a valid over-arching point rather than the exception and it's important to emphasize that this is a special case in this regard.
Besides, my main reason was utility since soloing isn't the best way to do things unless you have serious connection issues. It isn't the quickest way to level or gain AP, which I find to be the most important use for tokens since you can both grind and mine most things without spending any.
But all this is peripheral. Do whatever you please.

It can be quicker than partying. In fact, I find it a lot faster. Much more Exp per token as well.

Yes It can be way quicker but the chieftain is old news, this guide got quite a few views though.

What I find to be easier than that is just running around, getting a few hits in, then Dash away.
May take awhile, but it always works.

OR, you can kill it without taking 20 minutes or so.
Thats right.
