They're probably old Ragnarok Online players.
LOL yeah, this happened a lot on RO. I did it sometimes to notify guildies before War of Emperium because I couldn't bothered to message them all.

Don't RA's have to afk a lot for points?
-
Kanam wrote on 2010-10-18 04:35
They could run shadow mission, help other player, and do their daily mission for point, but I'll admit it's the one reason why I leave my pc open when I afk (to gather RA point). But I don't put a party sign saying I'm afk though.

want everyone to know they're afk with a party sign
just happened to see one that says they're sleeping, and it's seems like such a waste of electricity <.<
anyways what are your thoughts on this
The only time I've ever turned off any of my three computers are when I have to reset them for maintenance.
And thats like once every other week because I'm lazy.

My PC is used 24/7. Brother's a bat.
I don't see why I'd log off when going AFK for a longer time. It gives me X-Fire hours, GP and when I come back I can check the Log for guild chat.
As for the AFK party advertisement? Well, maybe so I don't make the mistake of talking to an AFKer? :P Actually I remember doing a party like that. AFKers unite! (RO playah)
YOU propably won't care that someone you don't know is AFK, but maybe that random has friends? It saves them the trouble of waiting for a response when they can see the party window.
I don't understand why some of you hate it so. Because they're getting a bigger bill? Why would you care? Or is Erinn too small to have one party window not related to you?

I do that sometimes.
Starving my ego/don't have anything to buy or sell
Might as well take up party ad space.

Yes, actually. It might seem strange to someone, but if it doesn't need to be on, why is it? Is Fantasy Life really so important? If the computer's already on for another purpose, I understand. I keep Mabi up and AFK when I have to work late into the night, but otherwise, it's off when I go to bed.

some of those signs get in the way of the more important party notices (there might be a better way to word that/another word for it)
and someone mentioned before using the normal party sign? (that doesn't appear on party chat) could easily get the job done as well
and noone's going to stand there for more than 5-10 minutes trying to get a reply out of someone that would clearly be afk <.< (if they don't reply)
most people would get the idea
guildchat- or any chat in mabi doesn't last very long (in the log, I don't remember how long it takes for the older ones to expire though)
-ps- someone sounds abit on edge here <-<;

I. Hate. That. Sosososo much. Yeah, I AFK a lot, but I don't announce to the entire channel that I'm showering, or sleeping, or cleaning my room.

This is like people on MS who'd put up Omok signs saying, "At school - fame please" or crap like that.
Imo, people like that just waste the party space. ._.

When they have that party sign you won't have to wait that 5-10 mins.
Logs expire? Really? o.o I have not seen that. Maybe a NA thing? I'm in EU. Here there's just a limit to how many messages are saved. Anyway, I still don't see why it's so hated. Unless like 50% of people are doing it. Not much of a issue here since I've only seen it around 3 times.

The the issue is people just afking, and the fact that people really find the need to announce that they're afk doing something.
