WTF Counter

  It's like I'm half retarded or something.
  
  Would some body mind going into a tad bit of detail on how to successfully counter.
  I'm unable to counter at all...at level 32. It's a bit upsetting.

  You need to have the skill Counterattack, by the way.

  I'm not sure what's going wrong then. With the sparks or without the sparks, right clicking just kind of does the smash attack. I've tried it at different times to no avail.

  It can be done without a perfect guard. I've done it personally that way, and have seen it done many times by Fiona's.
  Yes I have the skill. It's just like impossible for me to do it. Happens like 1/30 times I go for it.

  Without looking at any skill descriptions, other posts, guides, or what have you, write down the EXACT process you use to activate counter.
  
  Doing that will most likely root out the problem right away, but you have to type exactly what YOU do. It can't be what someone else says to do or the entire exercise is pointless.

  If that's exactly what I do, it's exactly what I do.
  
  Depends on the situation.
  
  Melee short range boss/monster. Watch attack patterns to know when they will attack and such. Wait till then, block with space directly before, sparks on the shield, left go of space and right click directly after.
  
  Long ranged melee (charge) i'm worse at, so I end up holding space the entire time, let go of space after their attack and right click.
  
  Ranged I just don't even try. I spear them and kill 'em.

  I've noticed that a lot of people think of blocking to counter as holding space down. Sometimes when you do this, you may be clicking a split second earlier than you let go of the space. One way to remedy this is to try tapping space to block and then right click when you see the spark. This is how I often get my counter to activate.

  I try it all the time.
  I usually try practicing it while I'm getting killed ore farming.
  
  I figured out my problem. I was holding space a bit too long, like what Heretic said. Tap it. That solved my problem :D I'm getting it at a 9/10 success rate now!
