My photography class assignment

This is an archive of the mabination.com forums which were active from 2010 to 2018. You can not register, post or otherwise interact with the site other than browsing the content for historical purposes. I'm in a program called Culture for change and it's sorta like Born In Brothel except it's more community wise and no prostitutes. It's led by a professional photographer and my assignment was to take black and white pictures about my community so tell me what you think.
Also it's about my 2nd time using a DSLR camera so I'm still learning. :P

I love playing around with the depth of field but I have to admit some pictures became really blurry and ruined the shot (Mostly the paper shot). But the skyscraper and street sign one was really hard to pull off since I was trying to focus on the Street sign and the skyscraper without making the skyscraper blurry.

But I'm still learning and I just tried to keep things simple instead of doing something complex which I'm nowhere near that level.

Yeah I made the pictures look like that :P
It gives it more effect and KaPow!
Like when my friend is holding up "The Saga Of Rex" book it kinda makes you focus more on her and think on a number of things like "I wonder on how her face looks" and stuff. cause if you noticed I made the objects on the backgrounds blurry and focused on her.

Nice selective focus. This picture is really nice.

ps. The D80 is Nikon, not Canon. The D80 has some stabilization issues and I'm not too fond of it, but you pulled of these shots pretty well. I do agree with Kazuni, though. You should try to add more compositional elements like bulls eyes, vectors, etc. Really think about your shots and the way that the objects in your shots are placed.
